This is a red flag that is often missed. I see this kind of shit all the time and mostly in cis-heterosexual relationships. The man pursues the woman and puts down his ex to make the new woman feel special. This addresses her insecurities while he alleviates his own. If anyone uses language suggesting that they are superior to another based on race, ethnicity, job, socioeconomic position, ability, religion, gender, place of birth... they will eventually turn that on you. Understand that this person's insecurities are expressed through arrogance. When it comes to relationships, insecurities arise all the time and this person will verbally and emotionally abuse you bc that's what they do to cope. It's not your place to fix them. Be their friend, not their partner.
