Some months ago the lineup for Progstorm 2026 was announced, some of my faves like Wilderun and Car Bomb being among them. But the event is in Montreal and unfortunately that is too far from me, but that's besides the point. The point is I wanted to check out the other bands on the lineup to find something new I might also like.
Obviously I find the bands really cool because they're prog metal but when I got to Nospūn's Opus, that's when things got interesting.
I went into the album blind so I had no idea it was a concept album, let alone one with a story that I RELATED to. So once all the pieces started fitting together I was like OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NOW WE'RE REALLY IN IT BOYS.
It's funny because I actually have a previous couple scrobbles from this album back in 2024, where I assume Nospūn autoplayed after a Wilderun album. Fork found in kitchen. Makes sense too since I felt vaguely like I've seen the album art before. It's a little ironic as well, seeing that Nospūn and Wilderun are both playing on the third day of Progstorm. I hope they have an awesome show.
What I found interesting was that I didn't go looking deeper into the album at the time. Perhaps the universe deigned I would listen to this album at The Right Time, when it would hit me closest and hardest. Who's to say?
Anyway if you're interested in a prog-metal rock opera concept album about a guy having writer's block so hard that the universe collapses on him, definitely check this out. It's absolute cinema.
