A bit behind for #worldsmentalhealthday #mentalhealthawareness but here’s a little post to remind people that if you thought there was a big enough stigma around mental illness, there is an even bigger one around using medication as treatment. I’m here to tell you there is no shame is having mental illness and no shame in needing medication to aid in the treatment of mental illness. My therapist put it in these terms,”if you had a bad infection in your kidneys, wouldn’t you take medication to fix that infection? If you have heart disease, do you think twice before taking the medication the doctor recommends for your heart? Does you family question why your dad is taking insulin for his diabetes? No. So why, when we are trying to help the brain, are we so quick to judge, and stigmatize? Did we forget the brain is an organ as well? Did we forget this organ suffers from illness and disease that requires care? The brain is often forgotten as an organ, and when it is, people forget that it needs just as much care and attention as the rest of their body. Remind yourself everyday, that your brain is as important as every part of you”. I hope this puts medication and treatment into perspective for some of you who suffer from mental illness but feel you don’t need to get help, don’t feel comfortable getting help, are worrying what others may think, think it’s unnecessary... If you would get help for any other part of you that ailed you, your brain should be no different. It’s just another part of you that needs help. There is no shame. It’s okay. I’ve been on meds for over a year. Treatment has helped. And for whoever reads this, I hope it helps you, too. #nostigmas #mentalhealthawarenessday #worldmentalhealthawarenessday #youarenotalone #oktonotbeok https://www.instagram.com/p/B3eoUxGFMMP/?igshid=9e697lgox8oo

Part I - To tell someone with anxiety or depression that it's because you don't have enough faith and trust in the Lord. Not only is it extremely hurtful, but it's simply not true! #mentalhealthawareness #breakthestigma #nostigmas #youarenotalone #hopeisreal #loveisthemovement
This is SO true. #mentalhealthawareness #youarenotalone #hopeisreal #nostigmas
It's comments like these that I run across on social media that really hurt. I know they're just joking around. But mental illness isn't a joke. You wouldn't joke about someone who needs chemo for cancer. #NOSTIGMAS #mentalhealthawareness #mayismentalhealthawarenessmonth #thinkbeforeyouspeak #mentalillnessisnotajoke #letschangethings #followthegoldenrule #justbeakindperson #hopeisreal #loveisthemovement 💕
A short break from the Mommy Love to spread some awareness. If you didn't know, May is Mental Health Month. I suffer from mental illness so it's something that is very close to my heart. It can be so hurtful when others don't seem to understand, or worse completely discount what I'm experiencing and say things like I'm "too sensitive" and shouldn't be "so fragile" as if what I'm going through is my choice and my fault. If nothing else, I hope this Mental Health Month helps break the stigmas surrounding mental illness and people become more understanding, open-minded, and sympathetic. Living with mental illness is hard enough on it's own. Being judged for it just makes life even harder. Supportive family and friends truly makes all the difference! I speak from experience. I'll be posting more on the topic this month. And if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to please feel free to DM me. Much love and many prayers always, Carrie #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmonth2018 #breakthestigma #nostigmas #youarenotalone #hopeisreal #loveisthemovement 💕 (at Baxter, Tennessee)
