Hey, Happy April Fool's Day!

Also Happy Anniversary to the day I found out a doctor lied to me about removing my birth control implant and left it in there for TEN YEARS causing subsequent "unexplained" infertility issues, countless doctor visits, shots, ultrasounds, blood draws, and too many tears to count. I love a chance to be proven right about my lifelong suspicion of anyone in the medical profession and boy, was this an opportunity!

Special shout out to our legal system which makes it financially impossible for me to pursue a lawsuit against said doctor and which also gives me two years to prove that the consequences of my prolonged exposure to progesterone are permanent, even though medically it will be impossible to know if that is true until I hit menopause and am past the point of wanting children anyway.

Also I had a dream where I was beginning to date one of the doctors at work and I woke up thinking noooooooo that’s the stupid one!!!

Because for real, not all doctors have common sense and are still tasked with making life or death decisions and I’m like no, I would not trust you with my pet rock named Susan

The medical saga continues

So I requested a referral from my new doctor to see a rheumatologist after explaining that I had a chronic illness that required a specialist. Thus far, I've had to call the office twice now to explain why I need this referral (which really means calling the number, choosing selections from a robot, being transferred, explaining who I'm trying to reach and be transferred again to the doctor's actual office staff...maybe, if the stars align). It almost feels like this doctor doesn't believe I have a chronic illness, let alone multiple ones *sarcasm*. He already fucked me over by giving me less medicine than I needed because "it's take as necessary!1!" (nigga u think I don't know how to read the labels?) and he changed the dosage of my meds without telling me. At this point, I'm fucking done with this doctor. I knew navigating the Medicaid system and finding a good doctor would be difficult since I am a patient with complicated health issues (mostly due to (because it was already hard when I had decent coverage under my parents) but this is fucking ridiculous.

so I was planning on applying for a “diversity program” grant for an away rotation at my #1 program of interest, using my LGBT status as reason for diversity, only they require a “letter of endorsement” from the relevant core clerkship director that specifically mentions the reason for diversity

leaving aside the fact that I don’t know how I’m supposed to get a letter of endorsement from a clerkship I haven’t taken and won’t take until fourth year (literally the month before I will do any away rotation I end up doing), I’m not out to the EM faculty at my home institution and I WON’T be out to the EM faculty at my home institution because they’re still on my short list for residency and that is never going to fly

welcum to surgery where spite rules. I got ortho JOINTS and spent 4 weeks holding 400 lb peoples’ legs in the air, hurting my back and being called “babe”.

i also saw literally two surgeries. knee replacements and hip replacements. i failed the practice midterm and the clerkship director was like “please make a study plan” and i wanted to be like HOW ABOUT I PLAN TO ROTATE ON A SERVICE WHERE I ACTUALLY LEARN LITERALLY ANYTHING

it could be worse? I guess? I mean, I’m going to spend a month wearing an iron apron watching someone stick a wire in people’s arteries while being massively irradiated, but I suppose I could have landed ortho. or transplant, where I only would have seen one surgery the entire month (my hospital does almost all the liver transplants in the state but pretty much no other transplants ever)

the thing is, our bariatric surgery track is super popular and I somehow managed to land it but when I asked if I was allowed to trade with another student, who might CARE about bariatric and who could give me trauma instead, I was told no ‘but I’m sure you will end up enjoying your rotation as scheduled’

argh I just found out I was assigned vascular surgery during one of my surgery months despite writing “literally anything but vascular or transplant” in my request email AND I wasn’t assigned trauma despite making that my #1 choice and trauma being honestly the only surgical specialty I give nonzero fucks about

I think I’m going to go watch Rogue One for a third time to make myself feel better
