I'm sorry for bringing this up agian, but im still confused, why is kais new hair racist? Even with what i read i'm still confused about it.

It’s a problem because despite braids/locs/dreads working the best with our hair (in its natural state it locks together so when you braid it, it stays in place while with straight hair it does not) black people are constantly shamed for having natural hairstyles. For jobs, there would be a dress code that you can’t have these styles (when will kept they are not dirty. Dirty hair is just a hair thing and not a style-texture thing) or black people who have tried to get jobs have been turned away because they wear their hair in its natural state. There have been blatant examples with this bias with western celebrities such as Zendaya.

It’s a problem with Kai because he’s perpetuating this discrimination because he’s wearing it because ‘it fits the genre.’ So, he’s essentially wearing a costume as well as expressing his non-black poc privilege (like other K-pop artists who do it.)

I wouldn’t call the dreads racism but definitely cultural appropriation.(People who are not affected thinking their opinions matter is racism because it’s them saying, “I don’t understand this thing so black people must not know what they are talking about. Despite me never experiencing this I still know more and have more of a voice than them.”)

And I’ve seen the argument, ‘this comes from this culture and it’s okay!’ or ‘the Greeks wore it and the Egyptians had braids (Egyptians were black!)’ and the reason why these don’t work is because of the double standard. It’s not fair that we can’t wear our hair naturally but everyone else can copy it because it’s ‘cute’ or ‘edgy.’
