hi, i was just on the fic ‘adagio’ by lydia_eve and saw you’re the most kudo on there. wasn’t stalking kudos at all, it just caught my eye and thought i’d make you aware —
there’s a reason the fic (and all the author’s other fics) have comments turned off, and why this fic only has 1 comment on its latest chapter.
the chapter initially had nicki calling louis the n-word (fully spelt out, with the hard r ending). this was treated as just a run-of-the-mill insult and nicki faced no consequences for it. please note that nickistat is the endgame of this fic and the author is white. lestat will be ending up with nicki, a white man who called his black husband the n-word.

this author also has a history of being very strange about louis/jacob. she recently implied she agreed with an anonymous question she received that suggested joseph should be on the sdcc panel instead of jacob: https://x.com/lesbian4milfs/status/1943444592528875828?s=46
i really hope you kudo’ing the fic is just because you weren’t aware and not a way of signalling your support/defence of the author. just thought i’d let you know in case you’ve not seen the discussion around this (which has been mostly twitter-based) :)
Anon, I’m about to tell you something that’s very silly, and is probably going to sound like bullshit, and all I can hope is that you know me well enough at this point to believe me, but I actually kudos’ed the fic by accident, and ao3 doesn’t let people unkudos things.
Another anon had actually sent me an ask about it with the link to the fic, and I was scrolling through to try and find the context the slur was used in - I haven’t otherwise read the fic, I don’t really read Nickistat fics - but they’d already removed it. I went to click on the comments on the off chance someone had excerpted it (also honestly because I’m a bit nosey sometimes, haha), and well, I was on my phone:
I have clumsy thumbs sometimes.
I almost did reply to the initial ask about it, but with the line deleted (although the content warning still up), it’s kind of hard to comment on beyond the fact that I’m pretty baffled anyone would use a slur like that so frivolously that it can apparently be edited out as easily as it has been. I do think there’s room to explore the weight of words like that in the context of a show like this where characters come from such different contexts and time periods, but they should be explored with purpose, thought and appropriate sensitivity, which doesn’t seem like it’s been the case here (also it seems to be a modern AU? So it’s kind of a moot point).
But yes, it’s disappointing to say the least, and unfortunately does lend itself to the broader discourse about a growing pocket of Nicki/Nickistat fans right now which I had hoped (still hope!) isn’t what it seems to be.
(Sorry for the confusion though, and for my clumsy thumbs. I almost posted about it last night, but didn’t want to Streisand Effect the whole thing, but I probably should’ve figured people would’ve noticed given I got sent the anon in the first place).
