The world is full of idiots
I admit the shit that went down at UC Davis was wrong. But there are students here at UCR protesting the wrongfulness of what happened at Davis. I don't see how exactly their point will be made.
You pay thousands of dollars in student loans to pursue an education only to ditch class to protest something you're not 100% sure about. I bet you a majority of these people have no clue what they're really fighting for.
If you truly wanted to make a difference, you would be up in Sacramento or DC protesting. Protesting on school cameos is not going to make a huge difference, especially when you only have roughly 30 people participating.
These people have the opportunity to get an education. Yet they're mucking it up by thinking Riverside will actually fucking care. They are the little people. They don't have the power these protesters think they have. You really think they make these choices because think it's fun? Because they want to? No, because they're hands are tied when the government takes away school budget. They have to increase tuition in order to meet their budget requirements. Otherwise, goodbye school, everyone pack up and head home.
You think protesting on campus will make riverside turn to Davis and go, "hey man, the shit going on in your school is influencing my students. Just give the Davis students what they want." Umm, no. Doesn't work that way. It's up to Davis and their school board to settle the problems.
Occupying schools have little effect unless something drastic happens that gives you media attention, like what happened at Davis. But in the end, the attention gets focused back to occupying the cities. That's where students should be protesting.
If you truly wanted to make a difference, you wouldn't be wasting time on a small campus no one really cares about. Good luck on finals in less than a week.
And this is my opinion on the matter.
