Before I start, I’m going to reiterate that I AM NOT thepandaredd, if you want his reaction, it’s here x. I’m not affiliated with him, and do not speak for him or his ideas in the slightest.
Anyways, my thoughts…
Clearly, looking at my rating, I LOVED the movie. I think they were doing so many things right, and were really setting up Bruce’s character really well.
I think that this is is one of the best versions of Batman I’ve seen in live action. I’m so happy that we finally get to see a young Batman, someone who hasn’t been doing this long, someone who is still using “The Batman” as a mask, someone who is traumatized, and anxious, someone who has so much space to go through character development and growth.
What I think this movie does the best is setting up a story, which historically DC hasn’t been the best at. They started with a year 2 batman, no Robin, not super skilled in fighting (to the point where he takes a few hits that other more experienced fighters wouldn’t), he’s socially awkward, working through his trauma. All I see coming out of this movie is potential. Potential for a Robin in the scenes with the Mayor’s son because Bruce sees himself in the child. Potential for character development, as he realizes his wrongdoings and works to change not only himself but the city. This movie felt like the start of something.
Speaking of our dear Bruce, I was skeptical going in, I knew Robert Pattinson is a good actor, but I couldn’t see him as Bruce Wane yet. After watching the movie, I think he was absolutely the perfect cast, and I couldn’t imagine anyone else in this version of the role. A greasy, socially awkward, emo Batman was exactly what we needed to see on screen, and Pattinson played him perfectly. I also think that this is the perfect Batman for a Robin, and an ever growing adopted family. I really think that Pattinson is going to be the Batdad that we needed in our lives.
Some people may say that Pattinson looked a little scrawny, not muscular enough, and to that I say bullshit. First, did you see his back when he was pushing away that table before spray painting the floors? Second, he’s only year 2 Batman, and hasn’t quite achieved muscle on muscle yet. Third, I’m not sure if we’re going to see a bodybuilder-esque Batman from Pattinson’s version.
I’m not going to go too in depth about this but basically Pattinson was quoted saying things like “I think if you’re working out all the time, you’re part of the problem” and “you set a precedent, no one was doing this in the 1970s. Even James Dean- he wasn’t exactly ripped.” He said he was “barely doing anything” it came to working out. x This article is from mid 2020, so things may have changed since these statements were made, but I don’t think his ideals have changed much since. When he appears in the movie he isn’t godly muscular like we normally see in super hero movies, he isn’t shredded, his muscles aren’t popping under his skin. That’s what a normal muscular body looks like though, and I find it so refreshing to see a normal muscular body, not one that was dehydrated, deprived of sodium, and on a hellish diet. I think we’re going to see more of the “natural” body type of superhero from Pattinson, not one that’s necessarily comic book accurate, and I think it’s a step in the right direction so that actors aren’t killing themselves to be able to take their shirt off on screen. (You can read more about what actors go through here)
When watching the movie, I couldn’t get over some subtle things that hat they peppered in to the film, a lot of time really went into fleshing out the world and making it feel real. (My favorite little detail were the Polaroids in The Riddler’s apartment iykyk) Not only were there subtle things that made me smile but there were hints to other villains, like Joker, and Bane (at least I think that the green liquid Batman injected himself with in the final battle was Bane’s Venom.)
There isn’t much to say about Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, she was perfection, made my bisexual ass simp way harder than necessary, I loved her and I think she was great.
There’s so much more to this movie than I thought there was gonna be, and if you have other points feel free to send me asks, dm me, I’ll have conversations with y’all about this movie, those were just my main points/thoughts on the movie.
I have a BUNCH of posts queued for Friday about The Batman. I’m not gonna be posting my opinion or spoilers until then because I wanna give more people a chance to watch it first. I may post non-spoiler things here and there but that’s it.
If you want my opinion on it before Friday feel free to dm me we can have a whole conversation about it.
