Watching Edward Scissorhands for the first time and going “oh THATS where those liminal space images are from”
Heads up that I’m about to finish The Antique Shop so I’m probably gonna spam a bit. I’ll switch to the queue after a bit if I remember but I’ll be tagging everything with ‘The Antique Shop’ so you can block that if don’t want to see it.
Also: Reminder that I don’t tag spoilers unless it’s in one of the last episodes (mostly bc I don’t know how far back I need to go for something to be considered a spoiler lol) so in this case that’s probably episode 34 and later
Technical difficulties mean this week's episode will unfortunately be delayed. Watch this space for updates as Jess battles spotify to get it sorted.
Hey there! I just listened to your Go-won-go Mohawk episode and I'm doing a research project on her here in New York centering on the historical marker that (poorly) commemorates her. Could we chat about sharing the incredible work you've already done around her? And I can share the work I've been doing too. I look forward to your response!
Hi!!!!
So so excited to see this in our ask box of course you can chat with me about her I would love nothing more!
I cannot remember if this blog has DMs, but if not feel free to DM me (jess) @stormleviosa
Planning the pride month specials is going fantastically as you can see...
Hey! I NEED more info about the duellist who broke into a nunnery to get her girlfriend out and I can’t make out what show you said did an episode about her or guess the spelling of her name well enough to google her. Help!
Hi friend!
The fabulous lady you are thinking of was Julie d'Aubigny, otherwise known as La Maupin, who was a bit of a celebrity in 17th century France. She was an opera singer and also a duellist (swords) which is super cool and queer of her. She and a merchant's daughter fell in love, merchant's dad sent his daughter to the convent, La Maupin also joined the convent and then set the place on fire to get her and her girlfriend out. Which is much more insane than simply breaking in. Tom also tells me that she fought three duels in a row outside a royal party with men who were angry she was dancing with another woman. She won all three duels.
If you want more info (because I am not a historian unfortunately), check out @queerasfact who did an episode about her back in 2017. This might also be the show you were thinking of. @rejectedprincesses also has an article about her in the book and on tumblr/online with some awesome art. There are citations at the bottom of the web article if you need any more, including another podcast.
