while not a true spider, amblypygi still have open circulatory systems like their arachnid relatives, meaning that they lack veins and move their body with fluid pressure (hence why most spiders’ legs curl up when they die). this lil whip spider has freshly molted, making the flow of its hemolymph visible through its unhardened exoskeleton, which i think is pretty neat :)

Me, interrogating every little spider I find in my house: "ARE YOU DEFINITELY A SPIDER????" 👀

Tiny spider: "Yes, I have eight legs." 🕷️

Me: "ok. DO YOU PROMISE TO EAT BUGS????"

Tiny spider: "sure."

Me: "ok, then you can live here, but you have to kill bugs."

BUNNY HARVESTMAN Metagryne bicolumnata ©Andreas Kay

Bunny Harvestman from the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Its scientific name is Metagryne bicolumnata, from the family of Cosmetidae, in the order of Opiliones, also known as Harvestmen or daddy longlegs. They are not spiders, but belong to the same class of Arachnida.

Help?

This isn't the kind of post I would usually make on this blog, but it's the most appropriate of my blogs to put it on. It's a vulture culture problem. A year or so ago my lizard died and we buried her in a box, but I had go dig her up because we are removing the garden (where she was buried) and now I want to get her skeleton articulated, does anyone know where I can mail her to get that done? Somewhere reputable please, as she is very special to me.

Camel Spiders: Neither Camels, nor Spiders

CAMEL SPIDERS ARE SO. NEAT. Also somewhat terrifying. 

This is me ^ reacting to Dr. Cushing explaining their, uh... dramatic reproductive behaviors. Apparently my expression is so exaggerated that an anatomy instructor wants to use a gif of it in a class to demonstrate the function of a facial muscle 

and just look at this

I mean you can’t say camel spiders aren’t inspiring.
