In  the  heat  of  the  moment,  those  words  had  spat  out  of  his  brother’s  mouth…  Hiding  his  pain,  his  sorrow…  All  bottling  it  up  tight  without  a  single  one  escaping.  For  years  Elric  has  done  this,  but  it’s  not  just  hiding  how  he  feels,  he’s  lying…  to  a  lot  of  people,  including  his  own  brother,  Erwick.

First,  he  looked  shock,  then  as  he  slowly  glanced  towards  the  ground,  Elric’s  eyes  filled  with  guilt.  Golden  orbs  narrowing,  head  hung  low  in  shame  as  locks  of  hair  thread  across  his  brows  and  cheeks.

“ E-Erwick  it  …i-it’s  not  like  that. “

He  tried  to  explain  himself,  suddenly  feeling  as  though  the  shell  were  breaking  for  once.  Elric  couldn’t  bring  himself  to  keep  lying  or  hiding  things  from  Erwick  for  so  long,  eventually  he  did  crack  every  now  and  then…  But  never  had  he  been  so  abruptly  called  out  for  it.

Pain  entered  his  eyes,  quivering  beneath  golden  lashes.  Flesh  meets  steel  as  he  holds  his  right  arm  close  to  his  body,  the  arm  he  gave  for  his  mother,  the  burden  he  has  carried  with  him  almost  his  entire  life,  since  the  day  it  happened.  As  though  he  were  wishing  she  were  here  right  now,  finding  the  answers  for  him,  to  help  him…

Elric’s  lip  stuck  out  a  bit,  quivering  too,  parting  slightly  as  though  to  speak,  but  he  struggles…  “  I-I  just  …would  rather  hurt  for  you….  “  He  utters,  voice  barely  audible,  but  he  feels  if  he  speaks  any  higher,  he  might  choke  up.

“  I’ll  burden  all  of  the  pain  …on  my  own…  instead  of  upsetting  you  …You’ve  been  through  enough…  y-you  shouldn’t  have  to  bear  my  pain  as  well.  “

“  …I  just  want  to  keep  you  smiling…  So  I’ll  keep  smiling  as  well.  ”

    Truthfully, there was no easy option to remedy the alchemist’s injury…

    Voices faded in and out. The Goddess, Nurse Beta, a few irritable quips from Erwick. Edward Elder, and a few others that were unfamiliar… Only the intense, throbbing pain persisted with any level of consistency, emanating from a damaged limb that humans were never designed to have.

    “It can’t be healed,” one voice stated, sounding displeased. “Not without an extensive redesign of his automail prosthetic, and there’s no time for that. By the time it was complete, the nerve and muscle damage would be permanent anyway.”

    “You’re talking about amputating a limb,” someone else stated… “This isn’t exactly a good option either.”

    “It’s better than him bleeding out or going into shock from the sustained pain,” snapped another. “There’s no better option. The one remaining wing should be enough to channel his abilities nonetheless.”

    There was a quick, sharp twinge in the boy’s wrist… A needle? And then everything spun and turned dark.

    “… I think he’s waking up.”

    “You’re right, he’s definitely moving this time.”

    “Back up, both of you. Give the kid some space.”

    The world gradually faded back into existence… The plain, clean white of the Order’s hospital wing, a dull, aching pain in the boy’s back, blurry faces slowly coming into focus. One was definitely Sylvia, judging by the shock of golden hair and electric blue eyes. Erwick was up and about, being shooed away from the bed by Nurse Beta. Her violet eyes scrutinized Elric, somehow both stern and kind at the same time.

    “Take it easy,” she told the boy, undoubtedly predicting a rash reaction. “How are you feeling?”

Elric woke up in a haze, trembling from head to toe. After blanking out… He sorta forgot where he was and what was happening. The voices started to draw out an old memory.

“…G-Granny?” He muttered weakly.

When his golden eyes narrowed open, examining the blurry world around him, he started to come to, reality hitting him like a brick wall along with the pain… Though not as severe anymore. “H-HEY– ….!” He grunted out, especially when told to take it easy. “H-He doesn’t have to leave…!” Elric protested… Apparently having caught them shooing a certain earwigfrom the room.

Immediately he tried to sit up, grabbing his shoulder quickly. “Aah! Ow…” He started to think maybe not letting his alternate see him like this was a good idea, but at the same time; Elricwanted to see Erwick, and make sure he was okay as well.

A little bit of a fearful look overcame him, he felt around his shoulders for those strange appendages.

“I-I’m fine …Wh-What happened? …Y-You bastards knocked me out with something!!” The little alchemist tried to glare, but he was so dizzy from the medication he was far from intimidating. Just a rude little thing.
