She leaned against the brick wall, panting softly as blood dripped down her sword. Quick thinking saved her from a blow as she beheaded the fool who dared rise from his proper place on the ground with the rest of his men. Damn Hoshidans. Noble soldiers? No. They deserved no better than to rest in filth after the way they had slaughtered her village, her parents. They were no innocents. Not like the ones they’d killed. And neither was she. Alacia knew that better than anyone.
She rooted through the soldiers’ pockets, looking for anything of value before wiping her sword off on the leader’s clothing. She threw on her cloak to hide the bloodstains on her clothes and belted the sword to her waist.
The swordswoman grabbed the head and wrapped it in wax paper before shoving it into her bag. She buckled the flap and hoisted the bag up, strapping it to her horse. Aurora snorted softly, keeping an eye out for danger. The two headed back towards the bar at a leisurely pace. When she arrived, she quickly spotted her client. She gave him a flirty wink and coaxed him to the backroom, checking for onlookers before handing him the bag.
“Give me what you owe, and I’ll be on my way” she held out a hand into which the man placed a bag of coins. “Thank you for your business.” She turned and left without another word, taking a seat at the bar. “Hot tea if you would?” she asked the bartender, flipping him a coin. She did not partake in liquor when she was working. She needed her wits at their sharpest.
