As it stands right now, it seems that it would be through advertising.
They have what is known as “boosted” posts. Like Facebook promoted posts but a lot less complicated. You either boost a post or you don’t. There are no demographics, age selection, time frame, etcetera.
You can earn some points by doing activities on the site, or by promoting someone else’s post to your timeline. But you can also purchase points directly from Minds - I presume this is or will be one source of revenue for the company.

You could use software like Mailman, or PHP list, but if your list becomes large, you will run into mail delivery challenges. You'll need to manage routes, blacklists, gray lists, reverse dns, bad IP addresses, etc.
There are many newsletter mailing software packages you can install yourself. But I would not recommend them. The learning curve to set them up is significant and the cost benefit analysis suggests that most people will not benefit from running their own mailing list server.
Instead I would use a commercial system like Aweber http://oglink.it/aweber or Mailchimp http://oglink.it/mailchimp
They both provide you with everything you need to run a mewsletter whether you have a website or not.

This is a problem with the mod security addon to the apache server. Something which you have not control over on your current host (bluehost) and good luck trying to get them to help you.
This shouldn’t be a problem, but it clearly is, it can be caused by many different things.
Your account was misconfigured (by you, or by support, or by an app). If you just started using WordPress, then maybe remove everything and start over.
If this started happening after using WordPress for sometime then make sure you logoff, clear your cookies and cache on your browser. Wait 15 - 20 minutes, then log back in.
If you can’t do #1, or #2 doesn’t fix it, then… you have to go to your cPanel, or connect via FTP, then rename the plugins folder to plugins.old.
This will temporarily “break” your website, but it should allow you to login if a plugin is the culprit. If this lets you in and “do your thing” then you can rename the folder back to “plugins” and you’ll have to go through each plugin to find out which one is causing the problem.
There are at least another dozen ways this could be happening and an equal amount or more of troubleshooting steps, likely one of the tips I gave you should resolve your issue.
In the future, I recommend you move to a better host that will actually help you resolve issues like this.
