Echos on the ice bouncing between his eyes and the reflection there. He can’t escape them. They’re in every single corner of his mind. Breaking thoughts apart before they fully formed.

He didn’t need to think just then. Only feel.

Too tired to quantify anything beyond the cold hopelessness.

That did not stop them from existing.

He turned his head to face the direction of Stan’s distraction somewhere else on the surface of the Lake...Then looked back down. Hammer in hand quick to spike the ice into cracking them follow up with the blunt end to break through.

He did not have time to think.

He plunged down into the water in a quick dart downwards. Moving fast and unhindered by the shapeless entities in the water until he reached bottom.

Letting the hammer weight him down enough to set feet to the bottom. Next to the frozen form of his Father. Despite the urgency, he hesitated. Stared down at Him until his stare narrowed with refreshed hate and anger--

His next actions anything but.

Lucifer slid hammer shaft under Scott’s arms and across his back, hooked his own arms around the ends. Make it easier to firmly hold him while making the swim back up.

He only had one wing, two legs, and determination to get back to the surface with a grown man made heavier by ice. Lucifer was strong, but he was also kept in a state of partial exhaustion and deep fatigue. No doubt to make him easier to control.

He broke surface with Him and pushed him up onto the surface of the ice the rest of the way. Only spotting Vassago crouched nearby the edge after the fact. She had a wet stare and a thin forced smile while setting hands on Scott’s frozen form.

He turned away and started pulling himself out of the water at the opposite side of the hole.

“Be gone.” Low and hard and forceful. He did not turn to look again until he was on his feet on the ice once more. Took a glance over shoulder to find Vassago and Scott gone.

Without questioning anything about any of what he did or Vassago’s presences, he started walking. Water logged and sluggish. Not running. Not hiding. Only moving while he still could.
