How do you deal with writer's block?
I mean, considering the last time I wrote on this blog was like,,, October, maybe I'm not the best person to ask, lol
But in general, I've gotten past some writers blocks in the past, so here's my two cents I guess
First of all, consider what may be causing the writer's block! Is it a scene or plot that is giving you trouble? Performance anxiety? Do you just lack motivation? Are you too tired or distracted to write?
Try to organise yourself first, for example if you're anxious about projects and deadlines it may not be the best time to go off writing fanfiction with them looming on the horizon. Then, organise your workspace! Clean your room, clear your desk, get your space nice and clean with minimal distractions for your writing spree. Block social media, yada yada, then move on to step two!
One thing that helps with getting you back in the swing of things would be sprints. Set a timer and basically just word vomit as many words as you can in that time. It doesn't have to be part of your story at all, just anything to get the ball rolling. I suggest getting down and competitive with other people, one of my discord servers has a sprint bot where anyone can join the writing spree and it works wonders!
What I did to combat writer's block was to scale things down. I couldn't commit to large and long term stories so I scaled it down to one page ficlets, then worked up from there. Now, instead of one big unfinished work I have dozens complete tiny ones and honestly, I feel pretty accomplished, current issues notwithstanding.
If you're having trouble with a specific scene or plot or character, you could try writing around it and come back to it later, or alternatively find a friend or a beta reader and complain about discuss your issues with the story. Rubber ducking it might just give you the inspiration or ideas to get over the problem!
Finally, if none of this works, because this is by no means a comprehensive guide, then you can look up other tips for getting rid of writer's block. There's about as many tips as there are writers, so you're bound to find a good solution!
