1856 Pioneer's (Sawback) Shortsword!
British Artillery Officer's Sword!
Heya guys! I recently picked up a British Artillery Officer's sword and wanted to show it to you - so I figured I'd pull out my Artillery shortsword and compare the two. The shorter one definitely feels heavier in the hand, but it turns out there's hardly any difference in it! Short is 714g and long is 720g - even with an 8" blade difference!
1897 Pattern British Infantry Officer's Sword
Just a quick overview of the 1897P British Infantry Officer's Sword - the most recent and in fact current pattern for British Officer's. This one has had an interesting life - since you can see that it is covered in vaseline! We clean it off and get a good look at the etching in this video though!
1796 Light Cavalry Officer's Sword!
Here's a little overview of my 1796 Light Cavarly Officer's Sword. This thing is a beasty little sabre and I absolutely adore it. I figured it best to compare it to a couple of other swords to give you the best idea of the scale of this particular example.
Cavalry Success in the First World War!
I recently read a few books about important aspects of the First World War, which I thought I'd share with you! Specifically, was the use of cavalry in the conflict a complete waste of did it have any success? Also, what caused the problems of the cavalry?
Those books were:
Horsemen in No Man's Land - David Kenyon
The Smoke and the Fire - John Terraine
Tank Battles of World War 1 - Bryan Cooper
I was recently introduced to a new YouTube channel called NotesAboutHistory. Holly has produced a number of excellent videos on swords and history. She also has her own website, as well as a few other social media accounts that are worth checking out!

How Heavy are "Fighting" Swords?
So I decided to weigh a sample of my antique swords to see just how heavy they are - I have to say, I was surprised by the 1796 Light Cavalry Sword!
1885 British Cavalry Trooper's Sword
So I picked up an 1885 Pattern British Cavalry Trooper's Sword. So here's a short introduction to the pattern and some notes about related swords.
Campaigns, Sieges, and Buying Commissions in the Napoleonic Era!
I talk about this week's book - The Man Who Broke Napoleon's Codes, Mark Urban; it brings up themes of Napoleonic Warfare, Sieges, Promotion, and life on campaign!
