Notes and Quotes
Some notes taken as i have been reading the Ezio Manzini book. I am finding the book very enlightening. Manzini is constantly meandering across my areas of interest. It is great to read about someone that shares many of my thoughts. One thing to note from the book is so far is that Manzini is interested in the development of the Design Professional as a new role. I agree that this is something that needs to exist but i also thing there are many faces to this new type of practice. I am interested in how I can find a hybrid of his ideas within my own practice.
On the distributed economy-
page 20- ‘It appears that a sustainable, resilient economy must be a distributed one: a local-global economy in which local economies operate as separate, adaptive units linked within ever wider networks of exchange - at the local, regional or global level.’
Manzini goes on to say that the only way to create sustainable systems is to create adaptable systems and the best way to create adaptable systems is through local distribution.
I think this makes a lot of sense, the way I imagine it is the thinking about how you might deal with a fire. Of course you can have a number of blanket protocols to deal with an outbreak but only applying these without them being married with knowledge of the particular building or situation that is ablaze makes no sense. These protocols need to be married with information that can only be known to those that are at the site of the problem there and then who can adapt their strategy to the problem as it occurs.
