boom!  okay,  so I am determined to be here and try with a new start for the new year.  I have come to a couple of decisions,  and while not every single detail is smoothed out,  I wanted to talk about the things I want to do.  now,  I realize I already have more than enough headcanons about his father,  but I’ve been dissatisfied with them.  now I think I’m happy.  so below is a brief summary of my new concepts.  this is not the official headcanon post,  eventually I will add this new information and consolidate the old information into a new post.

so,  what I’m going with is Cloud being a Shinra bastard.  yes,  I know it’s been done.  but I like it,  I’m going with it.

even though Cloud is the youngest of the unofficial children of Shinra,  his mother was the one that Shinra truly loved.  she was actually his childhood sweetheart for a good number of years,  until his morals became more questionable and she couldn’t maintain her feelings toward him untarnished.  so the two parted ways for a gap before coming together once more in the event that created Cloud.

Shinra had tried one last time to convince Cloud’s mother to come with him,  to be the queen of his kingdom.  but she refused,  and when she found that their last night together had produced a child,  she kept that information secret to the grave.  Shinra never knew of Cloud’s birth,  and Cloud never knew who his father was.

his mother elaborated a lie that he worked in the reactor and died in a work accident when he was still too young to remember him.

while most of Shinra’s children resemble him enough to be spotted,  Cloud favors his mother facially and so passed by as the only bastard unnoticed by Shinra.  if one looks close,  though,  they would see that Cloud and Rufus bear the most resemblance despite only being half-brothers.

while this can change with plotting,  currently the only person who has learned of Cloud’s relationship to Shinra is Hojo who discovered it while doing blood tests on Cloud.  he used this information to torment Cloud,  but it was one of the bits of knowledge lost to Cloud when he suffered his mental breakdown.  when the memories began to return,  this one laid dormant.  so currently he does not remember,  but if someone learned of it and pointed it out to him at at a later date,  it would come back to him.

so the books never specify what the second Gothmog is,  so what if...  when Ecthelion killed the Balrog Gothmog,  that Gothmog’s body died,  his spirit diminishes as many things do as the ages go on,  and he is reformed as...  maybe not an orc,  but as something,  and is essentially still the same Gothmog,  just reborn and not a huge balrog.  the second Gothmog is made an orc in most media adaptations,  but it’s never specified in the books,  I feel it could be open to interpretation.

I mean,  technically there’s the third option of Thranduil and his wife actually deciding to have a child during times of conflict,  which isn’t entirely impossible because Elrond was technically born into a time of conflict,  he pretty much spends his entire life dealing with the conflict.  And given that Thranduil and his wife would both be elves who had only ever been to Middle Earth and did not have relatives that had come from the Undying Lands,  that could also increase the likelihood of them having a baby during times that the Noldor,  for example,  might consider a poor choice.

because I feel the Grey Elves had to just contend with,  and get more used to,  negative energy in general,  being that they stayed in Middle Earth where Morgoth and his servants are,  while the Noldor went on to a land where they were basically living with their god and their angels,  and so they would be more accustomed to having their babies when it’s peaceful.  so if that were the case,  and Legolas saw a lot more misery and conflict than we originally thought,  that could drive him to being as continually optimistic.

he could be one of those that took the bad and sent back sunshine,  y’know?

rough draft of my VII verse for Ignis. (relations to canon characters are not forced! simply provided and can be discussed or plotted.)     ** signifies info not yet clarified.

born in Midgar, Ignis had always been one of the prim and pomp. the Scientia family had always consisted of highly respected Shinra employees for as long as the company could recall. his own parents were no different, and Ignis had a shining future. as soon as he was old enough, he applied for an internship and experienced an array of different jobs. ultimately, however, he found his comfort zone under the tutelage of Reeve Tuesti and thrived in Urban Development. with Reeve as a mentor, he grew up without the cold and ignorant side that many Shinra employees had. not that Reeve was open about his dislike of Shinra’s ways, but the young man worked close enough to benefit from the man attitude.

**prior to the events of VII, Ignis is as anti-AVALANCHE as most any other brainwashed employee, but thanks to Reeve’s influence he is not ignorant to the terrible things that the company he works for is doing. he gets curious and begins his own brand of snooping, this snooping gets him in trouble, but he is a highly valuable employee due to his intelligence and his family’s history. so an accident is staged by the higher ups with the intention of injuring him and forcing him to back down.

the accident permanently blinds him. during the recovery period, he is approached by the Mayor who (after verifying his trustworthiness, of course) explains AVALANCE’s intentions vs Shinra’s intentions and effectively turns the young man against Shinra. a newly-minted, albeit somewhat unofficial, AVALANCHE-member now, Ignis maintains his position in Urban Development and does what he can to stop the Platefall. he is as unsuccessful as Reeve to turn any minds, however, and is forced to endure as an entire sector that he helped work on and improve is destroyed, and its people heartlessly killed.

                              but that’s about it, for now, until I finish the game. I’m almost there.

It’s remarkable to me that after over a year I still have a desire to characterize and write John Watson all solely because of the lines to this song: Mama sent me to the army, said it’s gonna make me a man. Dropped me off at the bus stop curb with a gun and a Bible in my hands. I said, ‘Mama, what you’re doing, maybe I don’t understand.’ She said, ‘One’s gonna kill and one’s gonna heal, but they both will bring a man to Heaven.’
