#FavoriteAlbumsof2017: Julie Byrne – 'Not Even Happiness' ... Good luck finding a more spellbinding artist than Julie Byrne. Her second record, Not Even Happiness, builds upon what we love about her music – warm, intimate, heart-wrenching, emotional, and memorable. This time around, however, Byrne's sound is more expansive, and, therefore, it’s even easier to get lost in her sonic world. Maybe it’s Byrne’s voice or her guitar work that always feels meticulously crafted and gently picked, such as the stunning “Follow My Voice” or the lush “Sea as it Glides”. There are times where Byrne’s voice is barely more than a whisper, like on “Morning Dove” and “All The Land Glimmered”, which offers a calming and soothing effect. Day 59: Pride. Pride beyond all measure. Pride that in an Ithaca record shop I would find your album sitting prominently next to Leonard Cohen. Pride that I can be one of the people that eagerly snatches your record off the shelf to come home and play it as soon as I get there. So much pride that I told every damn person in that record shop that we were related and I had the surreal moment of a stranger I had never met knowing your name like any great band. Pride in how you chose to bear your soul to this world. I am so proud of you @juliemariebyrne and the mark you're making in this life. Keep giving them hell.
