Rapid Rounds. On weekends on call I round on all the radiation patients on the ward by myself. I have seen anywhere from 10 - 30 patients in a day, in addition to taking outpatient phone calls, answering pages, and seeing unwell patients on the treatment unit. It often takes me the entire day to do this. Without breaks, this gives me approximately 12 minutes per patient, including finding and reading their chart, talking to their nurse, walking to their room, assessing the patient, adjusting orders and putting my own note in the chart. Some of my co-residents take pride in being able to be done rounding by noon, but I don't want my patients' only interaction with me all day to be a question about poop.
