“I’ll be with you in a minute,” Helen told one of the ED interns while she was wrapping up a call with another. Today was a particular rough day for everyone and she was wearing one too many hats at the hospital--and desperately needed some caffeine. After hanging up, she got the chart from the intern, assessed the new patient and admitted them.
On her way back to her wing, she had to make a stop for coffee and saw her favorite paramedic. “Today’s been crazy, hasn’t it?” she commented to the guy as if they had seen each other 5 minutes ago, before ordering a coffee for herself. “You’re on a break?”
