It was like he was floating, just barely there. His consciousness was aware of what happened around him except he wasn’t alive, his body still repairing itself and resetting him to how he was at his first death. Jack was vaguely aware of someone else in the room with him, pacing, sitting beside his body, and the gentle touch of fingers in his hair.
All of a sudden, his lungs screamed for air like he had been holding his breath for quite some time and his eyes snapped open as he gasped for that first breath. The first breath was definitely the worst. The only thing keeping him from shooting up as he struggled to breathe was a gentle but firm hand on his chest. Jack’s eyes searched for the source and he only relaxed when he saw Corvo’s worried expression.
“Corvo.. How-- Where?” As his breathing settled, the other man let him sit up and he realized where they were- Corvo’s quarters. “How long was I out?”
