rhys andrew bryden ·· golden boy, but fool’s gold / everyone who ever knew any of them said the bryden boys (always bryden boys, never girls) were cursed / mother passed when he was too young to remember, a sad product of the Curse and the reason their father turned hard and mean, sending the boys away from their illness-infested, ivy-cloaked home and out to boarding schools throughout new england / always second best no matter how hard he tried not to be, hidden behind the shadow of the first-place, first-born bryden boy / always a bit of a brown noser, despite his best efforts to be cool / finally flourished at his elite boarding high school, (which paled only slightly in comparison to his brother’s) but quickly grew cocky with his small-scale notoriety / committed to doing the Right Thing, which always ends up being the Boring Thing / secretly facilitated his brother’s rejection from columbia and thus his being the one to carry on their family’s legacy there / found a home in the order of the veil, letting the guilt and shame of his selfish sabotage wash away with the alcohol, but it’s determined to come back and haunt him as soon as he’s finally feeling strong and safe in the space he’s in—only he won’t let it, not now
