Balanced Understanding | Sam

He'd met identical twins, incarnates and possible shape shifters who looked exactly like his father. There seemed to be an infinite number around, and each one perked up his hopes. Each one coming around, appearing like ghosts in a crowd of people. And none knew him. Seeing your father without even a spark of recognition in his eyes...it hurt. No matter how many he saw, it still cut down deep. So walking along, kicking a can morosely along the sidewalk. He wasn't even sure why he was morose at that point, but he was definitely kicking the can in a morose way, hands in his pockets, head angled down...Head angled down so much that he walked straight into a tall figure coming in the opposite direction. Startled back a step, the kid looked up, blinking up at the grey clouded sky. Rain was coming, only...He squinted up slightly. "Dad..." He murmured out of habit, eyes widening slightly at the all too familiar face.

"Sammy!" Dean pushed open the motel room door, and his call was greeted with silence.  That wasn't anything new, Sam was probably at the library or researching or whatever it was the bookworm did.  Dean dumped his bags of food on the table, grinning.  He'd fulfilled Sam's list of rabbit food and healthy crap, and then gone on his own mental list.  He pulled out a box that contained half a pie, nodding with a smile.  "Cake is not pie," He said outloud to the empty room, "This is pie," He put it back down on the table, to be attacked later, and pulled out the files that contained pictures, information, and data.

He flopped down on his back, pulling out one of the papers and starting to read.  Sam usually did all this research crap, but Dean at least wanted to know what they were barreling into.  From the looks of it, the attacks were being carried out by the "Midnight Man", and old Pagan monster.  Stupidly enough, the Midnight Man could only get in if people invited him in.  Dean had researched, and it was some kind of sick game for fucking thrill seekers.  People all over the town had been trying it, and almost a quarter had ended up dead, even more sent insane by the hallucinations the Midnight Man provoked.
