Considering just how damn busy Dmitry likely was with getting what seemed like the majority of the death eaters out of criminal charges, Valentina knew that she should likely wait some before interrupting him. It would have been the polite thing, at least, but Valentina wasn’t particularly polite and the trial was over, which meant so was her waiting. Besides, she came supplied with alcohol when she came into his office, which seemed like it should count for something, and Valentina set down the bottle before making sure the door was locked behind her, wanting privacy as she turned back to Dmitry. 

She credited Dmitry for being the reason she learned Russian and he was absolutely the reason she knew sign language, hands forming signs as she remained standing. You're supposed to be the man in the family, so pay attention. It's bad for our public reputation for me to be engaged to a death eater no matter what our private views, so my engagement will be terminated, but I won't be sold off to another family for a term of eighteen months in the event the dark lord overthrows the government and releases Ari, She signed, ignoring how her heart was beating rapidly in response to the way her life was shifting. Also, I'm ready to murder people talking to me about weddings.

Off With Their Heads

Henry had shredded or set fire to every copy of the Prophet sitting on Camilla’s stoop. He’d been released from custody just shy of the whole hotel burning down, with a reminder from O’Malley, the auror whose nose he’d broken, that this wouldn’t be the last of it. Of course it wouldn’t- he’d assaulted two DMLE officers and then been locked in a room alone for almost twenty-four hours. Well he was free now and he’d already sent an owl to Dirk’s, asking if the man was alright, but now he had other business to attend do. 

He had a fresh stack of Prophets in hand- Charmed off a corner newsstand, he wasn’t about to pay money for this filth- as he strode into the law office of one Dimitry Nott, whose fiancee he’d already had the pleasure of meeting. 

“Excuse me sir, do you have an appointment-”

“No, but you’re going to let me pass anyway,” he said, smiling at the gatekeeper and summoning a Charm so blinding that the man fell back into his desk chair and blinked up at Henry as if he’d just stared into the sun for too long. That took care of that. 

He headed into the marked office, dropping the stack of Prophets onto the desk and throwing himself sideways into the first available chair.

“No, I don’t have an appointment,” he said, signing off-hand at the same time. His signing was rusty but hopefully not incomprehensible. “But I can pay. What’ll it take to sue the Prophet for everything they’re worth and then a bit more?”

Welcome to the family. We’ve heard so much about you. As much as I love my youngest son, Alexander would try to befriend even a dog that bites him on first glance, so despite his glowing recommendation of you, it was our daughter Barbara’s opinion that we listened to. 

Don’t take it personally; she’s the paranoid one in the family. Especially now, given what’s happened to Alexander, I’m sure you can understand how seriously she takes his safety. I can assure you that you aren’t the only one she’s thoroughly background-checked since she arrived in England. We haven’t gotten details, but she told us, after you visited Alexander, that you’re a good one, and you could probably use some new connections.

My husband and I keep up with the news wherever our children are. We’re all so sorry to hear about your sister, but if she’s important to Alastor I’m sure she’ll be free in no time. Since there isn’t much we can do from across the Atlantic about that, I’ve sent along some things to keep you comfortable during dark times.
