((If anyone is bored and wants to give me Feedback to an opening I am writing, here ya go.))
A game of chess is a game of skill, intelligence, and to some degree, luck. Each piece must move in tandem to the will of the player, working as a team in order to capture the King. At times, sacrifices must be made, and the piece that knows this most is the Pawn. Ever moving forward and never moving back, the Pawn is a disposable. Left to the mercy of the player they will stand their ground even when facing down the most powerful piece, the Queen. The sole purpose of the Pawn is to cross the board to reach the enemy fortress in order to gain the power to transform into the player’s choice of pieces. Rarely do these soldiers survive their journey, but such is the life of a Pawn.
In a Kingdom of Red and a Kingdom of White, a game of chess has become something more. Pawns and Knights are soldiers in the armies, Bishops and Rooks defends of the shadow-like Kings. The Queens are weavers of magic, powerful and vicious in their quest to control the Land of Theiloth. This story follows a brave Pawn as she attempts to survive a vicious war that is tearing a rift between two Kingdoms and threatening the only world she had ever known.
Loveday lay in her bed in the barracks, staring at the bunk above her. Around her the miscellaneous sounds of slumber echoed off the concrete walls that separated them from the outside world. Her thoughts were restless, though she needed her rest for tomorrow. Tomorrow she would be sent into battle with her fellow Pawns to serve the King in the name of the Red Army. What unnerved her the most was the idea that, as a Pawn, she must be comfortable with failure. The voices of her teachers resounded in her head.
“You are much too reckless, Miss Pole.” her Strategy teacher, Monsieur Yeats , would always say. “You are a Pawn, you must take orders without question. Ever forward, never back.”
“What if the orders are wrong? Can’t I save myself so that our squad isn’t wiped out?” she complained. He would shake his head and walk away, muttering under his breath. All of her teachers thought she was going to be killed as soon as she stepped outside the Royal City gates.
