A Lovestruck English Lesson👩‍🏫: Nova💫, season 1, set 2

And off we go....running. A lot of running in this set. I was super impressed by how they animated that whole sequence. And of course, this is the set where we get to see COMET!! And he loves MC! It is so perfect. I missed this little alien thingy.

Nova and MC is a complicated relationship to write because you can't have the standard tension between MC and the LI because this LI happens to relatively clueless (by no fault of her own). But it's being done so well. MC is trying to keep cool but her attraction to Nova feels natural.

I also appreciate how much humor there is. This is one of the funniest routes I've read in a while.

And so well written! Lets take a look:

I loved this metaphor. Her thoughts becoming a run-on sentence is a great way to describe how quick and jumbled her feelings are and then the physical comedy of her being unable to speak properly. There's a splash of personification with her mouth "deciding" and it adds to the humor of the whole sentence. Poor MC is tongue-tied.

There is a lot of cool stuff happening in one sentence. We have alliteration with "cheeks", "choose" and then "betrayal" "bright blue". Personification with her cheeks "choosing" to mutiny. What a verb. I laughed out loud. And of course, a "betrayal in bright blue" which is not only pleasing to the eye and ear, but it reminded me of think of the old Gershwin standard "Rhapsody in Blue".

We have an allusion to the mythological figure of Atlas: Atlas was one of the Titans who took part in the war against Zeus, for which as a punishment he was condemned to hold the heavens on his shoulders for eternity.

If you know anything about his backstory, you would see how this is a very fitting allusion.

YES! A reference to the movie Scarface:

Vocal description! Lots of ice imagery here: her voice is "glacial" (heavy, cold) and makes MC feel like there are "sharp icicles stabbing into my veins". Mc's blood runs cold at the sound her voice. Shotru is unfeeling, unmoved and most certainly unhinged.

MC wasn't well versed in travelling on a spaceship, let alone turbulence. So, when the ship lurched forward, the blonde stumbled, tripping over her own feet successfully. As the artificial gravity ensured her plummet to the unforgiving metal floor, Nova darted forward with precision. The soldier allowed her body to roll, protectively shielding the engineer from the brunt of the impact.

Together the pair landed unceremoniously on Nova's floor, stunned and disorientated. Slowly hazel and violet focussed once more allowing the duo to realise their current predicament at hand. In their tumble MC had ended up on top, her legs straddling Nova's and lips planted firmly against the soldiers.

Afraid of having pushed Nova too far, despite the situation being an accident, MC drew backwards in alarm. However, it did nothing to stop the equally pink flushes that extended across cheeks, as their breaths continued to mingle. Bravely it was MC who tested the waters first, having not observed any sign that their accidental kiss was not well received. Tentatively she brushed their lips together, giving Nova time to move away if she so desired.

Although Nova did the exact opposite, she surged upwards, claiming the blonde's lips as her own. The soldier's hands drifted slowly, raising to gently grip the blonde's hips, using her force to pull the engineer closer than what should physically be possible. Breathless they pulled apart, eyes seeking reassurance from the other. Nevertheless, Nova verbally voiced her concerns; after all, she was still learning the intricacies of human emotions, "Was that okay? I didn't misread your intentions, did I?"

Fondly the engineer shook her head, sending her blonde locks askew, tickling Nova's cheeks in the process. "No, you didn't misread anything, I very much wanted to kiss you." Seemingly those comforting words allowed Nova to let go of a breath she had been holding, followed by a relaxation of her muscles. With a sparkle in her eyes, Nova pursued a favourable line of questioning, "Does that mean I can kiss you again?"

"Yes, I suppose it does."
