It is funny how sheer failure is the only option for Starline.
Had he beaten Eggman,
Surge and Kit would've killed him.
Had he beaten Surge and Kit as well,
Sonic and Miles would've defeated him.
And vice versa if he killed any of the others.
If he somehow managed to defeat Sonic/Miles/Eggman/Surge/Kit,
Well, Sonic's friends would've figured it out and given him swift retribution.
In short, Failure Is the Only Option: In the end, there was no scenario where Starline's master plan would end well for him. Even if he'd managed to beat Eggman, Surge and Kit would've killed him anyhow, and if that didn't work, Sonic and Miles would just defeat them like they did in the real outcome of the story and go on to defeat Starline, too.
