astoria, daphne & their currently unnamed ( but no less loved ) triplet were born in the family manor of sternenschloss, scotland on may 31st, 1998, to laszlo & phaedra greengrass ( née goshawk ). an attractive young couple well known within the pureblood community for frequent displays of charitable generosity - with no real expectation to receive anything back - and for being completely and utterly in love with one another, people were really, really happy for them, because until the triplets, it was expected that their eldest ( adopted ) child would be their only heir. this was fine by the greengrasses, of course, and mostly accepted by their peers, but after they finally stopped trying to conceive a specific sort of magic happened and with great difficulty, three young wix entered the world !
laszlo, a star seeker on his house team in his day, had broken an engagement to marry the young phaedra goshawk after a whirlwind romance. it ought to have been a scandal, but no one could deny that the two of them were utterly enamored with one another. their eldest, adopted after five years of childless marriage, was always their biggest pride & greatest joy. they doted on them, and when the girls came along, they just completed a family that was already built on mutual respect and unquestionable love. there's little to say about their childhood except that it was as charmed as you would expect from a family living in a manor that was named, in essence, starlit castle. laszlo was kinder than the other pureblood fathers, more involved and more open with his love and his praise than he was really expected to be. phaedra was always a little overbearing, but it came out of the very best intentions - she delighted in being a mother and it can't be said this didn't start with her eldest, but the triplets were an unexpected and welcome surprise and she adored them, more than words could ever say. everything was perfect, most especially to the outside !
inside the manor was a slightly different story. still filled with love, of course - there's really no understating just how picture perfect their family always was - but phaedra was sick, and young astoria was sick, and these were vastly different time bombs ticking down towards an assured destruction. their mother had always struggled in private, most specifically with her mental health, and astoria's sickness - that horrible blood malediction that came upon her one cold december and never left, diagnosed after months of late night st mungo's visits and bedside vigils as the greengrass family curse finally come to rest on a new set of shoulders - only accentuated the anxieties that she already had. i don't consider astoria to blame for her mothers worsening condition, especially when she herself spent most of her bubblewrapped childhood most accurately described as being 'at deaths door' and obviously never asked for that, but. i don't think it helped ! the final incidents leading to phaedra's permanent hospitalisation are to be determined, but publicly, she died, and the greengrass children were never quite sure if that was because it was better for all involved or because it was just easier than admitting their perfect fairytale had become anything but.
astoria's sickness was kept on the down low, too; consistency was key within this family ! they couldn't have their mental health struggles and physical ailments coming between them and all of the arrangements that had been in place since they were born. four betrothals, all signed to parchment before their subject was old enough to understand what that was to mean. the eldest first, of course, then the triplets. astoria was to marry the young malfoy boy, back then, someone she had only met a handful of times when the summer heat was at its best and staving off the worst of her chronic illnesses. she grew up thinking she loved him, though she knows better, now. when it came out - and it did, though i'm a little ahead of myself - the betrothals were ended because they didn't know what else the greengrasses could be hiding, and these days, all of them think it was probably for the best. at the time, it was the end of the world.
she wasn't supposed to go to hogwarts. that had never been in the cards for her, and it drove her crazy, but she also had to make do. she was just too sick to be away from home for so long, and nothing short of a revolutionary new treatment would allow her to join her sisters that september, and - here comes that new potion ! it wasn't perfect, by any means, and astoria's health was always fickle - it was a sudden collapse in the middle of class and a rush to st mungo's that outed a lifelong secret, her young peers spreading gossip that made its way to their parents faster than the speed of light - but she managed to stay strong through enough of her hogwarts career to at least pass her owls. the newts would've been an entirely different subject if it weren't for the second war breaking out and all that came with that.
two truths can exist at once. phaedra & laszlo were wonderful parents. they raised their children with kindness and their children reflected that back unto the world. they were good people, on paper, and they were good people without trying to be - the things they did came natural to them and weren't for a photo on the front pages of the daily prophet. they were also blood purists. they instilled ideals within all of their children that astoria is still unlearning now, though this was a process started at hogwarts. and lazslo, thinking he had the right idea, was also extremely charitable towards the death eaters. like his parents before him, he saw something worthy of the financial support he gave lord voldemort - i don't think, now, he would consider it worth all the trouble it ultimately gave him, but at the time he certainly did. he wasn't a death eater himself, and the children weren't set to follow in any horrible footsteps, either, but when the war wrapped up his contributions got him a one way ticket to azkaban and with their mother 'dead' for all intents and purposes, the greengrasses got an advance on their family fortune. astoria got lucky, to an extent, with the examiners taking it easy on everyone sitting their newts the year after the war wrapped up, and she's proceeded to squander her fourth of it ever since.
astoria had never lived in the real world before ! sue her ! she entered into wixen england free of all the restraints that had ever been put on her - aged one to eleven she'd essentially lived in a protective bubble, locked in an ivory tower. through hogwarts she'd been watched like a hawk, all the better to make sure she didn't take a funny turn. her father was in prison and her siblings were all getting started on their lives and finally there was no one free to dictate how she lived hers, though honestly, she'd never really considered what she'd do with it if she made it to her teens - nevermind her twenties. in ten years, all she's managed to do is make bad decision after bad decision, jumping from possible careers to deadend jobs and back again, serial dating in the hopes she'll find her 'true love' and everything will finally, finally click into place.

( this is a new idea to me, but i have been thinking about it since i wrote the wc for daphne & astoria’s other sibling, so i am thinking … it def needs to be put down into words. you can read the background for the greengrasses as a whole - and the fates of phaedra & laszlo greengrass, their parents - on that wc, which should sit directly above this, but i think there is a very unique story waiting to be told in the idea of an older sibling who was no less adored by their adoptive parents than the biological children they eventually had were, but who finds out later in life that they were actually, unbeknownst to anyone, a muggleborn or half blood. i think the greengrass background allows for this really interesting like … edge ? if that’s the right word ? to being safe in the knowledge that you WERE loved and knowing you received a wondrous, perfect childhood, but finding out much later, after your mother and father are gone and it doesn’t matter anymore because it’s not like your childhood memories can be tainted - that you were, actually, someone who they probably wouldn’t have liked. i can only speak for astoria [ and future daphne’s / other triplet’s players will have to speak for them ] but she wasn’t a blood purist and she had to unlearn some stuff that was imparted on her by her parents and reconcile the people they were to her with who they were in actuality, but that is nothing in comparison to the journey that i think an older child with that specific sort of backstory could go on, and i think that would make for an interesting dynamic amongst siblings too ! that is all without getting into the same fun stuff i’m excited to get into with greengrass sibs of like, their unique sibling dynamics and everything ! )

( most if not all of astoria’s most meaningful friendships are ones that i think would have formed post hogwarts, but this is a character who astoria has been close with since they were little kids and i am willing to go in a few different directions with the dynamic itself, so please don’t feel boxed by that initial estimate ! she was a veryyy sheltered child / teen and only really gained the freedom to go out into the world and form dynamics after her father went to azkaban and she and her siblings were kind of left to fend for themselves, but i kinda love the idea of another little pureblood kid who she met at some of those stuffy events and just. instantly felt a bond with. her siblings probably treated her like glass her whole entire life, so maybe they didn’t ! she was always kind of loud & proud [ because her voice was the one thing that never weakened ] so maybe they were the quiet sort that she was able to take charge around ! maybe they were an only child with more distant parents and astoria’s easy comraderie and warm home was a welcome distraction ! maybe they met and hit it off in st mungo’s during one of astoria’s long term stints - they broke their arm or ran foul of a magical plant at the back of their garden or xyz thing - and gravitated towards a familiar face when they ran into each other at the annual christmas party ! i don’t know ! i think that’s the beauty of like … a friendship formed when they were just little that has grown with them and tided them over until they both reached adulthood. i don’t know if they even have to be very similar people now for them to still feel the bonds of that relationship, and it might be that they’ve drifted slightly apart now that they’re old enough to be free to do their own thing, but i think that the important thing would be that they do still consider each other their very best friend. )

( this is perhaps going to be a super basic wc, but i’m mainly throwing it up to build further on a part of astoria’s character that is super important, at least to me. she’s a serial dater ! she loves love ! i’d really go so far as to say she’s obsessed with it and i think that a good therapist could sit her down and unpack that, probably tell her that the reasons lie somewhere between having seen her parents be so blissfully in love and wanting something like that for herself or knowing her own time is limited and wanting to try and find that person she’ll spend the rest of her days with until it’s too late, but, well … she’s spending her money on designer shoes, not therapists. she is never NOT in a relationship and i am a little obsessed with midgame ships and relationships that start and end on dash, so i’m leaving this here as a forever sort of advertisement. the more different the character you have to offer me is to astoria the better, and the only REAL requirement is being down to clown with me when it comes to the building up - and then tearing down - of the dynamic we’ll have ! none of this is to say that i cannot be swayed into something more longterm if the connection between them calls for it because i love exploring chemistry and seeing what happens, but i don’t want anyone to enter into this with the worry that endgame ships are what i’m seeking out [ or likewise, the worry that if the chemistry is amazing i will ignore that in favor of doing more midgames ]. i think we could have fun and i would like to explore however much i can ! )

okay hello so ! admittedly i don't have anything set in stone aside from a few headcanons but i guess just a quick little heads up : philomena's kind-of, sort-of based on a somewhat canon character in the hp verse, specifically in the wizards unite game, though really little is known about her, and i've technically tweaked a lot about her characterization that, yeah, she's mine now ♡ so anyways, here's philomena!
both of her parents were outspoken supporters of you-know-who and his MAGIC IS MIGHT campaign, which eventually led to her mother's arrest after the war after involving herself in the conflict.
LAVINIA CRABBE-PADGETT, older sister to a death eater and quite possibly even more supportive of the dark lord than he is. she was never a death eater like he was - too much work for a woman with four children to raise - but she did end up housing some low-level death eaters at the end of the second war, and in the conflict that ensued once the ministry discovered this, she fatally injured two aurors, one of which would end up dying in st, mungo's. this in turn led to her arrest and incarceration in azkaban.
ARLINGTON PADGETT IV. was much less vocal than his wife, but supported the cause nonetheless, though nobody knew if it was because he actually believed the ideals that he-who-must-not-be-named had put forth, or because it was to save face— he was the son of a wealthy pureblood and her muggleborn lover, after all. he had intended to lie low after the death eaters lost the second war, only evading prison time due to his wife's actions because of this. still, the padgetts never quite recovered from what happened after the war, and this in turn affected the lives of all their children.
all the padgetts were sorted into slytherin, save for arlington padgett v., who was sorted into ravenclaw, which didn't cause as much of an uproar in the family— better that than gryffindor, as they would say.
fia was somewhat close to both their parents in different ways, especially as they grew up mostly on their own, with their siblings being much older than they were.
with their mother, fia talked quidditch. they were never much of a player, but nel often found herself studying and analyzing quidditch plays with their mother. it was a pastime for them— lavinia herself almost being a professional quidditch player, except as a member of the sacred 28, she was expected to marry well, so she did. her older daughters concerned themselves with vanity, her son not feigning much interest in the sport itself, so she turned to nel when it came to matters on quidditch. it was more of a pastime than a full-fledged hobby, though their mother often brought them to games, and they had an entire shelf in their room dedicated to quidditch memorabilia, specifically the pride of portree.
with their father, philomena talked business. they knew they were never going to inherit the family business, that would go to arlington jr., but their father kept them in the loop enough to know what goes on in a business and some tips and tricks in running one. of course, their father still kept to his traditional ideals and expected philomena to marry well.
it seemed as though philomena was the crutch that both their parents leaned on, especially as their siblings started going to hogwarts a few years after the end of the first war. basically, they kind of just dumped everything onto them, since they were often the only child left at home while their siblings were at hogwarts. sure, they spent more time with their parents, but both lavinia and arlington sr. were kind of also not the best.
nel was ambitious, much like their fellow slytherins. they were also described as stubborn and hard-working, but secretive as well.
philomena's relationship with their siblings is . . . not so good. they are regarded as the favorite by the older three, and they see their older siblings as vain and lazy. they treat each other with disdain, and family dinners are awkward as hell rip </3
as the youngest of four, they knew there wasn't much inheritance left for them, and fia knew there were only two ways out: marry well or work hard enough to earn a job that doesn't need you to do so.

graduated class of '11, was pretty much a good student at school, even making prefect in their fifth year.
okay so here's a quick rundown of fia's life post-hogwarts : right after graduating, philomena is hired to work a pretty lofty position at the department of magical law enforcement ( at least for recent grads )
said job may or may not be because their parents pulled some strings around ( hello nepotism baby ❤️👄❤️ ) and it may just be a pretty standard desk job, but it's something
and, okay, maybe the job was kind of just to appease her parents; they never wanted her to even work in the first place, preferring instead to have a strategic marriage arranged for her straight out of graduation. but philomena had insisted, so the desk job was kind of an in-between for them.
i think that she had wanted to become an auror long before graduation, though, and she saw her desk job as a way in. she had moved out of her childhood home and into a flat that she was ( partially ) paying for herself, she could do anything.
i think it would be nice to point out that despite the somewhat obvious favoritism that philomena never really liked their family, or their childhood. it was frought with too many rules, too many nos, too many and what would the other purebloods think, philomena? — aside from that, they were also kind of the crutch their parents leaned on, and fia really was just like i can't keep doing this for the rest of my life why do i have to play mediator between the two of them and just ! jumped at the first opportunity to leave !
and philomena was doing well post-hogwarts. they got a flat, started going to family dinners less and less, and was even working on enlisting in the next round of trainee auror recruitment— like i said, philomena in the early years post-hogwarts felt like they could do anything.
then the war happened and, well, her mother went and did that and suddenly all eyes at the office were on her when they originally weren't because she was just the plain kid who got coffee for everyone and arranged paperwork and nobody noticed her until now
god okay even i'm realizing that this is too long so here's a quick rundown of post-war fia : they lie low for a while, and i think their ambition drives them enough to put work ahead of their family and kind of just ... started to not associate with their mother's side of the family. eventually, a lot later than they had anticipated, they made auror (yay!) and yeah !! god i'll elaborate on this more but tl;dr: has a pretty shady past but is stubborn enough to not let that get in the way of their ambitions, and becomes an auror !

that being said, mara was born to two very loving parents ! she was one of four children, and the second eldest. she took the role of being the big sister very seriously, and it’s a sort of trope that she’s never outgrown, and she’s fine with that ! when she was younger she very much loved to mimic her mother - gardening, helping her younger siblings with homework, cooking ( no matter how bad she was at it ! ). as she got older, she was the COOL older sister who bought alcohol for them and their friends, the person they called to be picked up when mom and dad was too risky an option. if anything stayed consistent, it was that she was ALWAYS ready to help ! this notion extended to pretty much anyone.
by no means does that mean she’s super responsible, she loves to have her fun too <3 she is the <3 worlds oldest teenager, if you will !
now for the sad - while in her younger years she really had a GREAT relationship with her parents, it did crumble a bit around the second wizarding war. mara was 20, living at home at the time as many do after leaving ~school~ when the household shifted. her dad was different - a house that was warm felt more volatile than anything else. lost on the family was that their father was under the imperius curse a la the death eaters and travers, and he was likely working alongside the death eaters, despite the actual man vehemently opposing them. at the conclusion of the war papa travers was cleared of any crimes committed due to his sparkling record and citing the curse, though in a way, damage was done. at this point, she has a better relationship with her dad ! however, there is a great deal of saddness that is sort of attached to the thought of how guilty her father still feels, and how she somehow couldn’t HELP what happened to him !
that being said, she did return to fight in the war ! during her time at hogwarts she was in dumbledore’s army, and a while after she graduated she actually joined the order.
a healer, she spent time being a traveling healer in her early twenties, acquiring one year contracts in a few different countries before coming back to britain around her 25th birthday. she now works as a healer at st. mungos !
tldr ; a healer with a wack uncle and sad dad, who loves her family very much ! v much the Cool Older Sister niche to p much anybody ! v much the social butterfly ! can be a little bit of a spitfire, but not in the cliche. . . don’t mess with mama bear kind of way, u know?

neighbors ! she prob lives alone but in a relatively nice apartment somewhere, i truly am not picky ! ppl she can knock on the door of and be like hello <3 i have wine <3 also alternatively someone that wants her to kick rocks because she plays taylor swift too loud !
people her father wronged under the imperius curse in the second wizarding war ! this is so specific. we would have to plot it. but it could be fun. could be awkward.
people she practiced healing spells on in hogwarts when she probably shouldn’t have been <3 ! mara vc so sorry about the toe that is coming out of ur knee, but i think i fixed whatever was bothering u <3
people she met abroad ! so vague. ppl she forced herself upon to be her friend. ppl she had a short maybe one year rendevous with and then was like so long it is my time to depart - i will remember u in therapy <3
truly anything i am a nutcase and will quite literally take on any plot u want i will make it work
