UIC Postdoctoral Association given national award
The University of Illinois at Chicago Postdoctoral Association received a 2019 Elsevier National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) award. UIC was recognized for organizing the best postdoctoral association-led event.
Accolades were given to organizers of the third annual UIC PDA Career Development Symposium, which took place on September 13. For the winning event, UIC postdocs, graduate students and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs came together to discuss career options in academia, industry and contemporary career paths. A keynote address delivered by Adam Ruben – comedian, science communicator and molecular biologist – a networking reception and six career track panels were featured in the symposium. Topics included science policy, writing and legal fields. There were 240 people that attended from 36 institutions.
Symposium organizers include Peyton Bohnsack, Eleonora Gatta, Christopher Solis, Sobhika Agarwala, Anabel Miguelez-Fernandez, Bethany Baumann, Chueh-Lung Hwang, Andre Daniel Paredes, Joseph Lutz, Matt Wood, Alexandra Thomas and Isabelle Vea from the UIC Postdoctoral Association; Sai Siva Kare and Anna Terebus from the UIC Graduate Student Council; and Jacqueline Berger and Connie Ping from the UIC Office of the Vice Chancellor of Research.
NPAW is an annual celebration recognizes the scientific contributions of postdocs across the world.
