I read a post that says something along the lines of desi queers should lay off szms love because look at the state of thia country, especially Delhi. And I felt that. Because I am constantly terrified that this is what it must have felt like before the holocaust progressed as rapidly upto the 'final solution' as it did. Where when you pick up the papers, you see it is bad, you know it is bad, except it doesn't bother you and your life, so you move on. And violent, divisive forces take that for assent and continue with their programs of oppression and killing.
Normalcy is what is scariest. Because normalcy means that communities can be attacked and killed, but it doesn't impact those with powerful voices. They don't speak up. Life doesn't feel like there is upheaval, simply because I'm our small worlds, life goes on the same way as it always has, maybe with a shaking head at a dinner, and an accompanying "yes, the state of this country, I tell you".
Please don't allow our normal lives to become the weapon that BJP uses to further its murderous intent. Post about szms all you like, but create a stir in other ways. It is not possible to protest for a lot of people. For some people (me for example) itnis not possible to say anything on most social media. But you can do small things. Remind people that things are fucked up. Don't let people forget. Speak to people about things that matter. Just do not let people fo on with their lives like everything is normal. Otherwise, this, this regime of lynching and sedition charges against schools, and an increasingly biased judiciary will become the new normal. Every tiny action counts. Even if it is your refusal to allow someone to rejoice over the fact ki mandir wahin banega. Just, tell them that you don't agree. You don't need to debate it. But just tell them that they haven't won. There are still those who think and who want different things. And in that can be our eventual victory.
