Inevitable is the way Azul orbits back to Jade, lips strewn into a disapproving scowl. He holds out his hand, showing where Abigail had marred flesh. Crimson drips from the wound, now dried, and the merman heaves a sigh.
“I do hope this provided adequate entertainment,” He says without theatrics, knowing better than to pull fictitious heartstrings. Opposite hand raises to push up his glasses, until his fingertips meet the ridge of his nose. Azul is clearing his throat, awkwardly putting down his hand as he glances back to where Abigail still terrorizes, scowling. “Should my phone and glasses be found damaged, let it be known that you are the one who shall be found liable.”
It becomes clear that there’s more the merman has to say, evident in the furrowing of his brow and the increasing frown on his lips. Though, Azul chooses to hold his silence; the last thing the dining hall needs is for his wrath to serve as contribution to mayhem.
The beeline Azul makes through the crowd to where Jade has taken new refuge from the dining hall’s chaos nearly rivals that of Abigail’s in intensity. His housewarden had not been pleased when he set the furious goose upon him, he had known that as soon as the idea crossed his mind, but the result had been an entertaining display of magic and for that, the eel had found the risk well worth the reward. The goose, now three times her size, rampages through the dining hall like a monster from those land films his father liked to watch, leaving behind nearly as much destruction. But from safety, it’s easy to spectate as if it all was just a movie, and forget that damage has victims.
Jade rubs his ear, which is still red and sore from Abigail’s tugging on his earring, as Azul presents to him his own wound.
“Indeed,” he answers, mild smile inscrutable where the rest of his expression remains neutral. “Your defense was most impressive.”
He slips a hand into his robes then and withdraws Azul’s smartphone, undamaged, save for a new scuff on its case from where it had first hit the floor. After quick inspection, he hands it over without further delay. Payment for the show.
“I’m afraid your glasses had been kicked out of reach before I could pick them up.” The phone, of course, was the more important of the two in Jade’s eyes. He turns to thoughtfully survey the half of the dining hall now emptied by the goose’s rampage. “I suspect they slid beneath a table, which may have spared them any further damage.”
Genial eyes slide back to Azul, the mask of smiling innocence they adorn unchanged. “Shall I patch you up first?”
