On November 3rd, 2001 Valentino Rossi wins the Rio de Janeiro Grand Prix on the Honda NSR500. This was the final race of the 500GP era. VR46 also won his first premier class championship in 2001 as well.

There are now two riders in the premier GP class who were born after the end of the 500GP era.

With that realization, the 500CC beasts seem very far away.
