Last night I had a great meeting with potential new clients, who have the same dilemma I had with these stairs. They were such an eyesore to me because they are one of the first things I see when I walk in my door. What to to do with the old style “retro” railings, when you really don’t want to spend the money to replace them. I decided to embarrass them. I already knew I wanted to paint the wall in front a dark grey, behind the console table. With that in mind, I chose the same color for the railing in a different finish, to make it blend and recede a bit. The wallpaper on the risers is one of my one of my favorite tile patterns, which was perfect because it is also neutral enough that it give it a bit of a wow factor without being too overwhelming.
