John 7:24 ESV Jesus pointed out how God's people had found ways to harmonize the law of Moses when two laws might otherwise seem to contradict. The spirit of the law was justice and mercy. When we know to whom scripture points, whom it reveals, we will interpret and apply it with justice and mercy. ☠
There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?
(John 6:9 ESV) When the Israelites received manna in the wilderness, it was named for their exclamation upon seeing it: "what is it?" Jesus' test of his disciples when asking how they would provide food to the 5000 revealed to them their own need for miraculous provision. They had nothing in their own hand. What was it for so many? Jesus' feeding miracle in the wilderness reminded the people of their true Provider, who had called them, freed them, led them, and fed them. ☠
Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath.
John 5:8-9 ESV The authority of Jesus is such that at his word, all other obstacles are removed. This man who could not walk, whose law said he could not carry his mat on the Sabbath, was able to do both at the word of Jesus. ☠
