Wip Intro: Nano Thriller 2021 (NT21)

Genre: YA supernatural thriller.

Status: prepping, NaNoWriMo 2021 project.

When Ace first steps into Donnelley Academy, he expects to be surrounded by fellow intellectuals, thinkers, artists, and he is. But shortly after the opening of the school, he's surrounded by something else; bodies.

A string of gruesome murders quickly hit the academy halls, not reported to the police nor any outsiders. They are not allowed to leave. It will stop soon, the administration says, it's fine, they will keep going; but Ace knows that hungry killers don't stop until they're full, and he's determined not to be the next meal.

After all, prodigious lives make wonderful deaths, and he's quite the prodigy.

askjhakjsfhkjhf nano prep is eating me alive but I figured I should announce my project, since, you know, I'll be yelling about it all November. This is my first time writing a mystery and my first time writing horror-ish stuff, so I'm pretty excited, but I also welcome advice because I'm kind of just scrambling along here.

"wtf that's an incomprehensible title, nico, no one understands that" maybe to you. RIP to ur brains but my nd mess is different <3

aka i looked at the words "writing snippets" cut it to "snippets" cut it to "snips" and brain-autocorrected that to "sneeps" so here we are

that's a long way to say I HAVE 7500 WORDS OF DRAFT AND SHALL INFLICT SOME ON THE WORLD NOW here we go

Not A Date it's totally a date:

“There’s a coffee shop beside the school, if you want to escape the terror of a school cafeteria tomorrow. We could go.”

“Like a date.” Rafael sounded terribly amused.

“No!” Ace exclaimed quickly. “No, not like a date. Since we’re roommates and all, we should know each other better, and I really hate school food on principle, and—”

“I’m teasing you. And as I too hate school-administrated food… sure.”

Stuff (i only cut the part where he lists it for 1000 years lol):

“Do you have any… you know… stuff?” Rafael asked. “Or are you going for the impersonal-hospital-or-maybe-dystopia-movie look?”

“I have stuff,” Ace said indignantly. “Art stuff. It’s just getting brought up later, because all of it together is too heavy for a singular person to carry without falling down the stairs and dying.” {...} “I have literally not spent more than ten dollars of money on something that isn’t art in the last… five years.”

“Oh.” Rafael squinted, his face reading as if this were a challenge. “Books? Netflix? Extraordinarily designed limited edition muppets?”

“Only art books, I don’t watch non-art television, and I only have one of those, thank you very much.”

and so they meet (alt: holy shit Ace stop being so gay u met him 5 seconds ago):

“Rafael.”

“Like the painter,” Ace said.

“Yes, but spelt different.” Rafael frowned. “As far as I know. Must look that up…” Rafael’s mind seemed to wander for a few moments, then he said, “Anyway. Why are you here?”

“Art. You?”

“Nepotism.” Rafael grinned. His face was suited for smiling. Not like the dean’s. He had a very nice smile, in fact. Very nice.

“No, really,” said Ace. “I’m curious.”

“And I’m entertained by your curiosity.”

“Rude.”

“I can be bribed to tell. Eventually."

anyway now it's time for me to disappear again for. like. an hour and try to write some more 1st draft shit

Sneeps 3: the sneepening

what is UP my friends after like 3 days of radio silence in the snippet department i am back

Raf is significantly less eloquent when tired

“Are we going to Coffee Haven today?”

Ace looked up, almost dropping his phone as he realized Rafael was awake. “What?”

Rafael yawned. “Coffee Haven. The place. We planned to go to. Together. A week ago. And then could not. Because murder.”

get your own fucking waffles

Rafael leaned over, and said, “One. Two. Three. That’s interesting.”

“What?” Ace asked.

“Three waffles. One Alexander. It’s almost like… one could be missing. And you would be fine.” Rafael reached over to the fork cup—a monstrosity they had because otherwise he forgot where the forks were—pulled one out, and stuck it dead in the middle of a waffle.

Ace watched with indignation as Rafael then stole his waffle, eating it off the fork like a waffle-kebab.

context: ace talks to himself & raf called it "cute" because. c'mon guys he's gay as hell this is obvious now right

Cute? What was that supposed to mean? Puppylike? Childlike? Was he like a little kid, mumbling along about the thoughts in his head? Rafael had been smiling when he said it, so Ace assumed so. It had to have been condescending. His embarrassment now firmly set with him, Ace walked in, went up to Rafael, and said, “Do not patronize me.”

Rafael had been in the middle of ordering, Ace realized, which did not make this better. Slowly, Rafael echoed, “Patronize?”

“Yes. I’m not a puppy, I don’t need to be called cute when I’m being weird.”

Rafael was quiet for a moment. Then he turned to the cashier and said, “Could you perhaps make my coffee extra-strong?”

someday i'll post murder stuff i promise but right now you just have my idiots being gay for each other because thats my Brand

(btw i abso-fucking-lutely stole the name "coffee haven" from some american post i saw one time. i'll change it later its fine)

hey ADHD tumblr i have a question

im currently writing and the ADHD love interest describes his thought process, esp when bored, as "a thousand trains and only twelve tracks" bc... thats how it seems from what i've read (and from my experience w/autism--SELF DX {obligatory disclaimer}--which is apparently pretty similar). obviously i've combed thru NUMEROUS resources of all types and #actuallyadhd tags and im pretty confident overall but like. this specific line.

i was tagged by @zmlorenz! at the perfect time, too, i write suuuuper out of order and am working on the epilogue, so you get HAPPY ace. wild. no one's even trying to kill him!

anyway, lines:

“I’m going to kill her,” he mumbled.

Rafael kissed him, then said, “You’ll hug her the second she gets through the door and you know it.”

“Liar.”

“Liar,” Rafael echoed. “I’m going to make waffles. Get dressed.”

“Why?” Ace said. “They’re seeing the absolute mess this apartment is, what’s the harm in them seeing me in pajamas? I don’t need to brush my teeth, either. While I’m at it, how about I just start speaking in high-pitched squeaks, because that’s the dignity level I’m at—”

“Alexander.”

“Yeah?”

“You’re being dramatic again.”

Ace was about to deny it, but then realized it was actually entirely possible. Rafael left as Ace contemplated this, and after a moment, Ace heard the wonderfully unmistakable sound of the Eggo box being opened.
