If you are heading towards Coney Island this weekend on the N train, hop off the train at Bay Pkwy to experience the colorful abstractions in Eamon Ore-Giron’s “People’s Instinctive Travels: Homage to The Tribe” (2018).  The mosaics echo grand modernist structures and art from another era, yet here are accessible in scale and fit within the station architecture and the surrounding community.

Visual landscapes of movement come to life in David Storey’s newly installed artwork “Sea City Spin” (2019) at the 20 Av (N/W) station on the Sea Beach Line in Brooklyn. Inspired by the constant change of perspective experienced while on the subway and platforms, Storey created a series of abstract vignettes that weave together references to backyard windows and sidewalk market displays, juxtaposing nature with the urban environment. Fabricated by Mosaika Art & Design, the fourteen brightly colored glass mosaic panels echo a sensory feeling of motion and sequential transition, distilling the essence of the distinctive qualities of riding the Sea Beach Line in Brooklyn.

“There is Magic Underneath it All” (2019) is Maria Berrio’s newly installed whimsical artwork at the Fort Hamilton Pkwy (N/W) station on the Sea Beach Line in Brooklyn. Evocative of journeys made by travelers who may have immigrated from another country, or traveled to a new place, the artist strives to inspire and remind subway passengers that they are in the realm of possibility, beauty and magic. Translated from Berrio’s series of collaged paintings that use patterned papers to build fantastical compositions, Mosaika Art & Design created this series of fourteen glass and ceramic mosaic panels with intricate texture and rich color.
