Finished reading #Paul: A Biography, by #NTWright (@spck_publishing). . For me this is not only one of N.T. Wright’s best books to-date, but also one of the most insightful books I’ve read about the Apostle Paul. It’s clear, thorough, it has historical depth, and it’s very readable (the flow and energy of the writing is perfect). . For those who have ever read Wright’s *Simply Jesus*, the style is similar here, and, I guess, this is his *Simply Paul*. Like it’s counterpart, this book be revolutionary for many; offering a view of Paul that will (hopefully) help others to grapple with his motivations and theology. . Of course, there will be the some people raising the questions, ‘Where’s the cultural evidence? Where’s the source criticism? Where is the actual historical research? etc. Well, Wright’s been an avid world-leader in that field of historical research for a few decades now; and has caused quite a stir as a result. For those who want that deeper study, you’ll have to delve into Wright’s four-part *Christian Origins and the Question of God* series. . What Wright has produced here however, is an accessible and illuminating reading of the life and mindset of Paul. It’s still stocked full of historical insights, which help us to place Paul and his writings within context, but the language is clear of research-heavy abstractions. Or, to put that another way, reading this is like listening to someone simply relaying the story, with the right amount of clarification here and there, and not like listening to someone giving a university lecture. . Overall, I think it’s simply brilliant. A must read, and a much needed biography. . Bravo, Mr Wright.
