Nuclear Summer
Thanks for the title @chazifa
A/N: Im trying to write again so this is my attempt. Let me know what you think. Im open to ideas. P.S. I have no idea where this is going.
.....................................
So it happened. Three nuclear bombs went down over Europe on August 15th. Everyone knew it was coming. But no one was prepared. Bodies lay thrown and mangled all over the ground. In the eerie silence of one of the many neighborhoods, a toddler could be heard crying out for his/her momma; the heart rending sound of Disaster.
Blood seemed to rain over anyone who was left standing: A man made Pompeii. The specks of sunlight that pushed its way through the thick plumage of smoke illuminated the power that one man shouldn't have.... Far less for 3. Egos got hurt and money spoke.
She woke up with a weight on her chest. Like an elephant made her its chair. Her eyes didn't want to open either. She trained her body better. Not to give up on her when she needed it the most. OPEN!!!! OPEN DAMMIT!!! When she forced them open she realized why they wanted to stay closed. She was pinned to the main wall with a steel beam straight through her arm and the dividing wall which was supposed to be five feet ahead of her became her blanket. A body hung hovering over her with its eyes piercing straight through her soul; passing on the pain it felt, even though it was just for a second.
Rest in Peace.
It was time to test her body. But where should she even begin. She needed to free up her airway so she could lift up the wall, but she needed to free her arm so she could lift. Not to mention that body above her... she needed to get it away from her and fast. There was no time to wait for a saviour. There was no denying how beneficial a kick of adrenaline would be right now. But what could trigger it?
There wasn't much to see around her because of the angle at which she was pinned. So visual trigger was out. No sirens, no screaming , no nothing... The silence was starting to ring in her ears so auditory was out too. She was already mentally exhausted as it was, so she was out of options. Until she heard a low pitch growling close to her ear.
THERE IT IS!!!!
All backup energy came and she ripped her arm forward, freeing herself from the steel rod. She didn't bother to hold in the scream. Why bother? Everyone is dead.
The wall came up soon after and she slid under it, careful not to stir the body above her. The growling was becoming louder.
When penicillin was discovered, centuries before it would become resistant to most people, it was the one thing that would keep you alive. Even though it was by accident, this thought rang true.... Keeping you alive.
No other chemical could move like it, morph like it, multiply like it. Most people became allergic to it, but with a population of over 7 billion, the Earth didn't notice.
That annoying growling. It didn't get louder than a conversation being whispered but it never got softer either. It stuck on every hair in her ear canal and wouldn't let go. She was already 3 feet away from the body... why was she still hearing it?
She needed to stop the bleeding. She could only lose so much blood before she would pass out and might never wake back up. It's not any surprise she was wheezing, you would too if you stood in air thicker than the chemical stained air of China. She was wearing a sundress... not much to tear. Stop the bleeding or remain clothed. I mean everyone was dead... they wouldn't care.
A slight dragging brushing against the concrete, broke the steady stream of growling. She slowed her breathing and listened. No gust of wind, no sudden bang, no roar, no cry. Just dragging. That body was moving wasn't it? FUCK!! Out of all the things to happen while she was in her current state was The Undead. She chuckled internally at the Hollywood Gold she found herself in. A director would pay millions for an idea like this but here she stood, with not a dollar on her to offer up a bid.
Her adrenaline level dropped as the dragging become the background noise of her mental fight. Run? Turn? Crouch? What to do? Before she made a decision, a laugh from the opposite end of the corridor shook everything within her. Is she going mad? Penicillin was a hell of a thing now, huh?
Bang! Bang! Bang!
