Spy x Family 30 Day Challenge
Day 2: Favorite Character?
I think this one is just really obvious...
Of course, my favorite character is none other than Anya!
She's just really expressive. When I watched the anime at the first time, I liked how the animators colored her eyes with that pretty emerald, green. Her character design is just that lovable.
There was also something about her which made me feel so relatable with her, and it was her real age. Why? Because it was clearly not six (she obviously lied about it), so she became Eden College's student when she was around five years old (as the movie suggested it), just like my age when I was starting elementary school long time ago. In that time, I had different homeroom teacher each year, and most of them always suggested me to fix my handwriting, because it could be unreadable sometimes, just like Anya's.
She's the reason why I decided to watch the anime. She's also the reason why I finally decided to read the manga, only because of the spoiler of chapter 70 in which Billy put the (fake) bomb around her neck. It wasn't the first manga spoiler that I found though, since I also found some spoilers from chapter 62 and 66 before that, but those spoilers weren't as strong as that spoiler from chapter 70 to persuade me to read the manga as well.
In short, I really like Anya.

this has been pointed out like, a thousand times before me but something that is relevant to zuko’s character and the themes he represents is best pictured during zuko alone, the beach, the day of black sun, and the firebending masters, which is something that informs his arc of unlearning the toxic masculinity he was indoctrinated with by the fire nation, and embracing himself and his traditionally feminine qualities that he was condemned for in the past, such as his gentle nature or whatever is going on with his wrist. after zuko’s entire journey his return to the fire nation implies he will be tolerated at most by his father and society but never loved for who he is or what he can be (what he is able to be) and ultimately this is the wrong choice to make. zuko’s redemption is a journey of return because he not only learns, he unlearns. it’s a journey of return to his truest and most authentic self, the self he was severely punished for which drove him to overperform aggressive masculinity and to self-loathing and self-repressive rage and shame. the process of getting a girlfriend (mai, who is beloved) is evidently part of the oppression zuko faces upon coming back to the fire nation, essentially the embodiment of his shame and everything that is “wrong” with him, his ethics and performance of masculinity, or his figurative closet — not for the girlfriend herself (mai, who is beloved) but the mere act of having one. when zuko breaks free of the fire nation he breaks the relationship altogether, he learns to let go of his internalized notion of toxic masculinity during the firebending masters, with firebending as a metaphor for masculinity and the contrast between the fire nation’s agressive firebending fueled by rage and violence against the sun warriors' firebending fueled by passion and energy, like a heartbeat, human. to complement this there is the fact thar zuko is never quiet or shy in his disinterest in girls, quotes that come to mind are “girls are crazy” and “(you can bring home a lady friend) this city is a prison” and “[puts cupons in front of jin’s face when she’s about to kiss him] i brought you something” etc etc. only when he joins the gaang, otherwise known as “team woke” zuko is free to embrace his traditionally feminine qualities and experience his masculinity/boyhood in a way he can enjoy and feel like himself in his own skin. it is true that most of what i just said was not deliberate, the writers never intended to make this part of zuko’s identity so blantant or even thought of it at all, and yet the way atla portrayed zuko’s journey in such a complex and introspective and realistic manner resonated so much with me and many other kids out there we are still talking and thinking about it more than twelve years later. so in conclusion zuko is gay
