toshinori shakes while nausea & pain twist his insides. he wheezes against his fist. the air rattles in his throat & he coughs. dots of red coat his shaking fingers. he’s on his side, facing the wall & pressing his feverish, throbbing forehead against the cool tiles. he can’t remember when he had laid down. his gut clenches with nausea & he forces his torso up, retching into the waste bin permanently placed next to his desk. more blood. exhausted & trembling weakly, he pushes the bin away & collapses back onto the floor, relishing the cold of the tile. he wants to sink into that cold. he’s tired, though some primal part of him registers that he’s choking on his own blood & fights anyways. the room spins above him & he cannot breathe. his eyes struggle not to close tight against the classroom lights, or maybe it’s the lack of oxygen —
then there’s a voice, & steadying arms around his chest; he’s pulled from the floor. the room shifts, he feels small & vulnerable. there’s something holding his head back, opening his airway. he lets his jaw go slack, because he knows from experience that trying to stifle it when it’s this bad will do him more harm than good. he can feel the lukewarm liquid dribble from the corners of his mouth & down his neck. the room still looks like an oil-slick was poured over his eyes, & the ringing in his ears isn’t going away.
his throbbing head delays his response time, but eventually, he sifts through the painful static & finds his voice, raspy & wet with the traces of his fit. another one. he can hardly taste blood anymore, it’s so commonplace.
