✊🏻 Standing in solidarity with all Asian-Americans, Asian-Canadians, Eurasians, Pacific Islanders, and anyone with Asian heritage. 🌹 ❊ Over the past few weeks, I’ve thought a lot about whether I wanted to post something about the anti-AAPI hate crimes that have been happening in the US and Canada lately. I’m not even sure how to describe what I’ve been feeling: anxiously scared? Frustratingly angry? Incredibly sad? Extremely horrified? It’s definitely been a rollercoaster of mixed negative emotions. ❊ I’ve also been conflictingly confused, particularly because of my multicultural background, as well as having lived in and encountered so many different cities and countries in the world. 🌎🌍🌏 I’ve always wished and thought that the concept of “races” shouldn’t exist— we are all just humans of different shapes, sizes, beliefs, and personalities; to list a few of the many things that make each one of us unique. Why does it matter what one’s skin color looks like? Shouldn’t it be that who you are as a person in your thoughts and actions, determines whether you’re a good or bad human - rather than just what you look like on the outside? 🫂 ❊ Xenophobic rhetoric, racist acts, hate crimes, and targeted attacks based solely on someone’s race, gender, religion, sexuality, and/or disability are absolutely abhorrent and unethical. ❊ This pandemic - and life in general- are cruelly difficult enough; why do people have to turn to such wrongful hate and evilness?
