Title: Would You Give Me a Chance?
Prompt: “We’re not going to spend the holidays alone and sad! I won’t allow that!”
Summary: After a recent breakup, Shuichi finds himself spending Christmas alone. At least, that’s what he thinks.
One-Shot Notes: Past Saimatsu; Shuichi and Kokichi are about 24 years old
One-shot is under the cut!
Shuichi poured himself a glass of wine, staring outside as it snowed.
I guess I’ll be alone for Christmas, huh, he thought to himself.
It had been three months since his ex left him for another guy and headed off to the States. Shuichi had been devastated by the breakup and as a result, swore to never enter another relationship again.
He certainly never expected this from such a sweet girl like Kaede, to say the least.
He took a sip from his glass.
Whatever. I’ll just drink the night away or something, he thought to himself.
He grabbed the bottle of wine and headed over to the couch with his glass, taking another sip as his phone began to ring. He set the bottle and glass down on the coffee table and he picked up his phone, reading the caller id.
“Ouma-kun...?” he wondered out loud.
He answered the call and brought the phone up to his ear.
“Hello?” he answered.
“Heeeeeeeeeey, Saihara-chan!” Kokichi’s peppy voice floated through the speaker and reached his ears.
“Hey, Ouma-kun.” Shuichi said.
“So, whatcha up to this Christmas?”
“Me? I’m just going to watch some movies and drink some wine.”
“That’s it? You aren’t celebrating it with anyone?”
“No...I don’t have anyone to celebrate it with. How about you?”
“Eh, I’m by myself too. But seriously! I thought you had someone!”
“I don’t.”
“Oh...well, we’re not going to spend the holidays alone and sad! I won’t allow that!”
Shuichi heard some shuffling and rustling on Kokichi’s end as Kokichi spoke.
“I’m coming over. And I’m bringing my Switch.”
“Huh?!” Shuichi’s eyes widened in shock. “Ouma-kun, you don’t need to come over!” he exclaimed.
“Don’t you dare tell me no! You don’t deserve to be alone on such a special holiday as Christmas. I’m coming over, and that’s final!”
“But—“ Kokichi hung up before Shuichi could say anything else.
He sighed, setting his phone down on the coffee table.
I guess I’m going to have a visitor, he thought to himself.
💜💜💜💜
After setting up the Switch and pouring themselves a glass of wine, they found themselves playing Mario Kart 8.
“Goddammit, Peach, pass him!” Kokichi shouted as he mashed the A button, speeding around a corner.
“I won’t let you pass me anytime soon!” Shuichi shouted back.
Shuichi used a mushroom to speed up, continuing on his way. Kokichi hit an item block, grinning once he saw what he got.
“Hah! Eat my red shell, Saihara-chan!” he shouted as he sent the shell forward to Koopa, who Shuichi was playing as.
The shell knocked Koopa over, which made Shuichi shout.
“No!” he watched as Peach zoomed past him on her motorcycle. “You have got to be kidding me, Ouma-kun!” he exclaimed.
Kokichi cackled.
“Victory is mine!” he declared.
He swerved around a corner and made his way towards the finish line.
“Yes! I’m gonna win, I’m gonna win, I’m gonna win—“ Just as Peach was about to cross the finish line, a blue shell hovered over her head and it exploded, making her flip over.
Kokichi’s jaw dropped, the remote nearly falling out of his hands as Koopa sped over the finish line.
“Are you fucking kidding me?! Did you send that blue shell my way just now?!” he shouted, shooting Shuichi a look.
Shuichi shrugged as he reached for his wine glass and took a sip.
“Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. The world may never know.” he said.
Kokichi pouted.
“Oh, forget you!” Kokichi said as he sped across the finish line, making it in third place.
He reached for his glass, downing the remainder of his wine.
“Screw this game! I ain’t playing no more!” Kokichi whined as he tossed his remote onto the coffee table.
Shuichi laughed.
“You’re such a sore loser.” he commented.
“Am not!”
“Are too.”
Kokichi groaned.
“Ugh, I don’t feel like picking a fight with you. I never win when it comes to you.” he said as he leaned against the couch.
Shuichi laughed.
“Suuuuuuure. Whatever you do to make yourself sleep well at night.” he drawled out as he finished off his wine.
He poured some more into their glasses as Kokichi eyed him curiously.
“Are you tipsy, Saihara-chan?” he asked.
“What about you? Are you tipsy?” Shuichi shot back.
“I mean, I’m well on my way to becoming drunk, but I think you’re already there.” Kokichi commented.
Shuichi giggled.
“Am I now?”
“Yup. You suuuuuuure are.”
Kokichi swirled his wine around in his glass before taking a sip.
“So, Saihara-chan. How come you’re alone this year? I thought you would be spending it with Akamatsu-chan.” he asked.
“Oh, that.” Shuichi set his glass down. “We broke up.” he said.
“Huh? You two broke up?” Kokichi stared at him in surprise. “I thought you two were inseparable!” he exclaimed.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought, too. That is, until she left me for another guy and left for the States with him.” Shuichi explained.
“Oh my god...a girl like her? Dumping you for someone else?” Kokichi downed his wine. “Damn, I’m gonna need another glass.” he said, reaching for the bottle and pouring himself another glass.
He took a sip as Shuichi spoke.
“Yeah...it certainly came as a shock. But, it’s fine now. I swore to myself that I would never enter another relationship, so it’s fine.” Shuichi explained.
Kokichi frowned.
“So...you wouldn’t give me a chance, then?” he asked.
“Huh?” Shuichi questioned.
“I’m asking if you wouldn’t consider giving me a chance.”
“What do you mean by that, Ouma-kun?”
Kokichi chuckled.
“What do I mean by that...” he set his wine glass down. “I’m saying that I have feelings for you, Saihara-chan.” he said.
Shuichi stilled, fingers barely brushing the stem of the wine glass. He looked at Kokichi.
“You...what?” he questioned.
“I like you, Saihara-chan. I have for a long time. But, seeing as you’ve sworn off relationships as a whole, I guess I don’t have a chance anymore.” Kokichi explained.
“Ouma-kun...” Shuichi trailed off.
“It’s fine, Saihara-chan. You don’t need to answer me if you don’t want to. I just...felt like telling you, for some reason.” Kokichi told him.
He finished sipping his wine and went to pour himself some more. As his hands wrapped around the neck of the bottle, Shuichi’s hand rested on top of his.
“Wait.” he spoke.
Kokichi’s heart began to pound loudly in his ears as he stared at Shuichi, their faces a few inches away from each other. He swallowed as his eyes fell on Shuichi’s lips.
This is bad...very bad. He needs to hurry up and move or else I don’t know what I’ll end up doing, he thought to himself.
“Saihara-chan...” he trailed off.
Shuichi continued to stare at him, even as he began to lean in. Kokichi’s breath caught in his throat as their breaths mingled. Shuichi peered at him.
“Ouma-kun.” he whispered softly.
Then, their lips came together in a kiss. Kokichi’s eyes widened, his body growing stiff.
Oh my god. He’s actually kissing me, he thought to himself.
Shuichi pulled away from the kiss, whispering something against Kokichi’s lips.
“I’ll think about it.”
