[It's late.. So late. The stars fill the sky like fragments of shattered glass, so numerous no one could hope to begin to count.

They never did leave in the end. Even now they're slumped against your arm, though resting seems hardly the word for the fitful sleep they seem to be having. Eye occasionally scrunching up, muttering any number of alarming things you're just going to pretend you never heard, for both your sakes....

Not for the first time, you notice how fragile they look. How small. How disconcertingly frail. Not that your frame has changed much, from what you gather, and you're both the same height but.. Somehow...

Some level of weariness you can only vaguely remember now has left them looking so much more vulnerable. They twitch in their sleep again even as you're thinking it, breath short and panicked.. Though it returns to normal without incident.

Normally, you tell yourself, you would never tolerate this indignity! You're not a pillow! But what happened today was.. Taxing. On everyone involved it would seem and while you'll never admit it out loud you do know it was a little bit your fault. Just a smidge. A touch.
