Title: An Emotional Christmas
Prompt: “You know I could never leave you alone on your favorite holiday.”
Summary: Shuichi and Kokichi spend their first Christmas together ever since getting together six months ago. Things get serious (and also a touch bit emotional).
One-shot is under the cut!
Kokichi woke that Christmas morning to see snow falling outside. He stretched, yawning a bit as he turned. He was surprised to see that Shuichi was still in bed.
I thought he would be at work by now...maybe he’s going in late today, he thought to himself.
He cuddled up against Shuichi, resting his head against his chest and listening to his heartbeat. Shuichi shifted, bringing his arms around Kokichi and pulling him close, a content smile on his face.
“Mmm, Kichi...” he murmured in his sleep.
Kokichi smiled as he cuddled against his boyfriend, closing his eyes and eventually letting sleep take over him.
💜💜💜💜
Kokichi woke to the sound of the door opening two hours later. He sat up, blinking the sleep out of his eyes as he saw Shuichi step into the bedroom with two mugs along with a gift bag and a wrapped box.
“Ah, you’re awake.” Shuichi said.
“Yeah, I’m up.” Kokichi smiled. “Good morning, Shuichi.” he said.
“Good morning, Kokichi.” Shuichi replied.
He kissed Kokichi on the lips before getting under the sheets, handing Kokichi one of the mugs.
“I made tea.” Shuichi said.
“Mmmm.” Kokichi took a sip. “Tastes good, just how I like it.” he said.
He smiled.
“Thank you.” he said.
“You’re welcome.” Shuichi replied.
Kokichi took another sip as he took notice of the two gifts.
“Aren’t those our Christmas gifts? What are they doing here?” he asked.
“It’s here because we’re going to open them.” Shuichi replied.
“But why?”
“Because it’s Christmas, obviously.”
Kokichi bit his lip.
“But...” he wanted to continue, but stopped himself.
“But?” Shuichi said, eyeing his boyfriend curiously.
“It’s nothing. Don’t mind me.” Kokichi said.
Shuichi narrowed his eyes at him as if he were trying to read in between the lines. He eventually gave up, sipping on his tea.
“Should I open my gift first?” Shuichi asked.
“Yeah, you can.” Kokichi replied.
Shuichi reached for the gift bag, setting his mug of tea down. He took the paper out from it and reached inside, pulling out a navy blue sweater.
“Ah! I remember this sweater! It was in that department store we walked into one time!” Shuichi exclaimed.
“Yup! I saw you looking at it and knew I had to get it for you. Plus, I think it’s perfect for you.” Kokichi explained.
Shuichi smiled.
“That’s so thoughtful. Thank you.” Shuichi said.
He leaned in and pecked Kokichi on the cheek, which made his heart flutter. He blushed a little as Shuichi spoke.
“Now it’s your turn. I hope you like what I got for you.” Shuichi said.
He nudged the gift box closer to Kokichi.
Kokichi looked at the gift box before picking it up, observing the neat gift wrapping and the cute bow.
“This looks so cute. I almost don’t wanna open it.” he said.
“But you should.” Shuichi told him.
“I know, I know.” Kokichi said as he took the bow off and stuck it on Shuichi’s arm.
“Hey.” Shuichi said, making Kokichi giggle.
“Now I got two gifts.” Kokichi said.
Shuichi blushed as Kokichi giggled again, proceeding to tear the gift wrap off of the box to reveal a pure white box.
“A box? Seriously?” Kokichi questioned.
“Open it.” Shuichi said.
Kokichi stared at Shuichi and then at the box before opening it. His breath caught in his throat as he stared at what was inside.
It was a double layer necklace, the one on top spelling his name in cursive and studded with diamonds and the one below it saying “I love you” in cursive and studded with diamonds, as well.
“Shuichi...” he trailed off.
“Do you like it?” Shuichi asked.
“I...oh my god, it’s beautiful.” Kokichi said.
“Would you...like me to put it on for you?” Shuichi offered.
Kokichi nodded.
“Yeah...” he trailed off.
He let Shuichi take the box from him and he proceeded to take the necklace out. As Shuichi unclasped it and began to place it around Kokichi’s neck, emotion after emotion barreled into Kokichi. He was so moved that tears began to blur his vision.
“There we go...” Shuichi pulled away. “Wow, it really does look beautiful on you.” he said.
“Yeah...” a couple of tears escaped as Kokichi looked down at the necklace. “It really is beautiful...” he choked out as more tears fell.
Shuichi was taken aback by Kokichi’s tears.
“Kokichi, is everything okay? Why are you crying?” he asked.
He reached out to wipe his tears away as Kokichi choked out a sob.
“I...I’m sorry...it’s just...I’ve never gotten a gift like this before, not even when I was with my ex. I’m just so overcome with emotions because I’m just not used to being pampered like this. I’ve always been alone on holidays, so this...” Kokichi trailed off, recalling the many times he would be forced to spend holidays by himself.
Shuichi watched him as he continued to wipe away his tears.
“Well, I’m nothing like your ex. You know I could never leave you alone on your favorite holiday.” he told him.
Kokichi sniffled.
“I...I know that...” he trailed off.
“I know how important holidays are for you. That’s why I had to fight with my job to let me have Christmas off.” Shuichi explained.
“Huh?” the tears stopped. “Is...Is that why you’re here and not at work? Because I thought for sure that you would be at work by the time I got up.” Kokichi explained.
“Yeah. I had to go through hell and back just to get today off. I wanted our first Christmas to be special.” Shuichi explained.
“Shuichi...” the tears came back with a vengeance, streaming down his cheeks. “Shuichi...!” he sobbed.
“Alright, Kokichi...it’s okay...” Shuichi pulled Kokichi into his arms, stroking his back soothingly. “It’s okay...” he cooed.
This only made Kokichi sob harder.
If there was one thing that Kokichi knew for sure, this Christmas was going to be one to remember.
