"Well, maybe here, maybe there. Maybe nowhere...." -from What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?
In this moment he was just a boy -brilliant, blessed with too much power, burdened by eternity. - Leigh Bardugo
...Am I going crazy?...Would I even know?...Am I right back where I started fourteen years ago?...Wanna guess the ending? If it ever does....I swear to God that all I've ever wanted was a little bit of everything, all of the time...." -Goodbye by Bo Burnham
I’d like to point out that with your the siblings don’t care for five as much five does them analysis that there is a point you are missing (I agree with you by the way) and it is while the family does move on after five leaves they don’t really move on after Ben dies. Ben’s death continuously is shown to be emotional for them all. But five doesn’t get that same emotional connection from them not when he leaves and certainly not comes back. And it makes the siblings treatment of him specifically that much more jarring and bad.
OH GOD! you just made it even worse. This is such good addition. BRB I GOTTA CRY!
But yes, someone also pointed out that there was sense of isolation between him and his siblings even before he ran away. And @agentbluefox nicely pointed out the stark contrast of how Diego reacted when Five came back and when he "saw" Ben again. Both Five and Ben were gone for almost same time. Yet Ben's death still hurts the other Hargreeves, Five's disappearance does not.
It's almost 1AM here so this is not so eloquently put as usually. Sorry
I'm not used to being loved. I wouldn't know what to do. -F. Scott Fitzgerald
Sometimes I wonder if I'm going mad. Perhaps it is due to the pressure of knowing that I must somehow bear the burden of an entire world. Perhaps it is caused by the death I have seen, the friends I have lost. The friends I have been forced to kill. Either way, I sometimes see shadows following me. Dark creatures that I don't understand, nor do I wish to understand. They are, perhaps, some figment of my overtaxed mind?" - Well of Ascension, Brandon Sanderson
...and I'm your dream, make you real...I'm your eyes when you must steal....I'm your pain when you can't feel....I'm your truth when telling lies....I'm your reasoned alibis....I'm inside, open your eyes...I'm you...And it's sad but true. - Sad but true by Sam Fender
