NUMBER ONE RECORD, no. 2. Big Star, #1 Record. Some of you know this, some maybe not. It’s—chiming, guitar-y, trying-to-make-you-happy-but-maybe-tinged-with-melancholy rock. It’s so, well, moving, this record. Especially the first side. Oh, wait, no, I don’t want to play favorites. There are vibes that come off this record (both sides) that are weirdly energizing and activating especially if you want to be in a band, yet it’s got that melancholy (which might be because we know Big Star is another band that avoided appreciation in its own time). It’s such a great record. You like it. UPDATE SINCE I ORIGINALLY WROTE THIS A FEW WEEKS AGO: Did you see that meme going around social media where two adjacent Jeopardy! categories with Ken Jennings as host were “Big Star” next to “No. 1 Record” and people were making posts based off lyrics, including Ken (who tweeted a photo of the categories board and said, “I’ve been trying hard against unbelievable odds!” which is from “The Ballad of El Goodo,” one of the best songs on the album.) #bigstar #numberonerecord #kenjennings #jeopardycategories #theballadofelgoodo #inthestreet #that70sshow #alexchilton #chrisbell (at Noblesville, Indiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKuzXHfr69G/?igshid=1d1ohd0o3uy8h
