ok guys here are a few books i want to talk about
Numinous World - Black Ships, Stealing Fire, Hand of Isis
this series is pretty fucking amazing and unique and i was honestly obsessed with these books, but especially the first two. so basically there are a few characters who appear in the books but they are set in different times, so these characters are reborn and meet again in other lives (sometimes they don’t). in the first book, we follow the story of a sybil aka oracle, who goes along with a bunch of people who lost their city after an attack and are now in search of a new place to call home - this is the story of how prince Aeneas cruised around the mediterranean sea going on adventures with his people until he founded Rome, but it’s told through the eyes of the oracle. It’s a really special book! As an oracle she was allowed to have a lover but not marry, which I loved lol.... Also there is a love story between her, the prince and their best friend where they all love each other but there’s no jealousy involved, it’s really nice.
Stealing Fire is a type of book I never thought I’d enjoy but it ended up being my favorite of the three. It follows a soldier from Alexander the Great 8who was the oracle in the first book), who survived the last campaigns of his king and is involved in the chaos that follows after the king dies. He joins Ptolemy and they go to Egypt and there is a lot of strategic soldier stuff involved but the whole book has such a strong feeling of nostalgia and longing and the main character Lydias is really such a sweetheart. The love of his life was Hephaistion and he has two other love interests (a girl and a boy) so it’s really awesome to read about a time when bisexuality and homosexuality was much less frowned upon than today.
Hand of Isis follows the story of Cleopatra and her half sisters/handmaiden (one of them was lydias in the second book/the oracle in the first book). It was my least favorite book of the three but it’s still pretty amazing. I don’t really need to explain much, it’s Cleopatra’s life and it was a nice change from the heavily male driven story Stealing Fire, because in Hand of Isis the main characters are girls and they are ruling Egypt. Pretty badass..
Oh God I loved this book so much! It’s like a dark fairy tale (emphasis on dark) - there is a dragon who takes a girl from this little village every ten years or so. but the dragon is actually a wizard and this time he chooses to everyone’s surprise this young wild girl called Agnieszka. The enemy in this tale is the Woods - it’s kind of like cursed. It’s so creepy and unique. And the dragon and Agnieszka are the best. I loved all their fighting, it was really very entertaining.
Wolf by Wolf and Blood by Blood
Ok, if you want to read one hell of a book, one that rips your heart out and makes you cry, laugh and furious at the same time, this is the one. it’s set in the 1950s in an alternative universe where the nazis won the war and are basically dominating the world. a young jewish death camp survivor turned mutant is part of the resistance and has the task to infiltrate a motorcicle race organized by the nazis - she will participate, and has to win in order to meet hitler at the celebration and kill him. she has become something she calls a “skinshifter” thanks to all the experiments she went through in the camp, and can change her apearance. so during the race she has to pretend to be this german girl, but the problem is her twin brother and her ex-boyfriend are also participating in the race. this book is brilliant but it broke my heart. it’s so well written! the characters are also so amazing. oh man, i just loved this book so so much.
there are a few more books i want to talk about but this is getting too damn long
