I don’t know why the wildfires in Sonoma and Napa counties are not trending more, or why this news is not more widespread, but the devastation in the North Bay is phenomenal. 16 are dead (this death toll continues to rise), 2,000 homes- ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS- HAVE BEEN DESTROYED, 115,000 acres so far have been burned, and 183 people re unaccounted for.

We are all living out our worst nightmares as this beautiful place we call our homes is being desecrated by wildfires that continue to burn. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HOMELESS. TENS OF THOUSANDS HAVE EVACUATED.

Please spread the word. Please find a way to help out. Please don’t let Eminem or Donald Trump or Harvey Weinstein be what everyone is talking about.

IMPORTANT for Northern CA friends:

Sonoma County is home to many undocumented and similarly vulnerable people.

Some are too scared to get help during these fires for fear of being deported. For people who can get there safely, Elsie Allen High in Santa Rosa is offering a sanctuary for people to safely go during this time.

Everyone is suffering and we must be there for the most vulnerable people in our communities.

Why isn’t the California Wildfires trending here?? We are burning and many of Santa Rosa lost their homes in just a short time! The air here is getting bad and many are still evacuating.

Curfews have been set in Mandatory Evacuation areas. Many roads have been closed. Fountaingrove and White Oak got Boil Water notices. Larksfield-Wikiup got DO NOT DRINK WATER notices.

As far as I know the Tubbs Fire is at 0% and Nuns Fire 0% or 1% containment. Those are the fires within my county. My home is not anywhere near those flames but the winds won’t be helpful.

Burning Update!

So, California is on fire.

Specifically, and in addition to the fires already burning in SoCal, somewhere around 20 fires have started in the region from Clear Lake, down to highway 37, and out to Fairfield. There is not much in the way of containment right now and things are looking pretty bad. Things are particularly bad in Santa Rosa, where entire neighborhoods were levelled and many commercial structures destroyed.

I myself am at my parents home in Fairfield. I helped make sure they were ready to evacuate and we are ready to go at a moment's notice. Whether or not the house survives pretty much hinges on how the wind blows, and I'm not sure how that's going to go, so we watch and wait.

There's a lot of devastation across the entire region, and many are left homeless, displaced, out of work, injured, etc. This article (http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article177964926.html) has a number of ways to help, but if you do a quick Google search you will find other charities and donation pages for groups working with the fires.

For those of you in or around the fire zone, keep safe, keep each other safe.
