Haven't posted in a while so please enjoy this view of campus! Not too much new going on, I'm doing well to keep up in my classes besides Pathophysiology, for which I'm struggling to maintain a B haha. I also got to experience a simulation day where I watched classmates and myself participate in a emergency like patient scenario. Also watched Jurassic World and visited Fort Lauderdale a couple weeks ago! A real life Room of Requirement. This group has been here since the week of our first exam, and we've been gellin ever since. They were working together on a patient virtual simulation. I was just in the background in awe of how much they looked like a team. #nursegino #teamwork #harrypotter

Sooooo I'm already halfway through my first semester! That was quick ya? I've learned so much in a little over a month and it's honestly been a blast. Not only have I learned a lot in class, but I have already seen patients in clinicals, given medications, and pricked people for their glucose 😬😬. The clinical group I'm with has been so smart and compassionate that they're an inspiration to me. Each person has varying levels of healthcare experience, and since I'm pretty much a baby, it's great to learn from everyone. One month to go till summer break. #nursegino (at Miami, Florida)

Week 3 - Already finished my first exam this week! Got a B in Pathophysiology, which is overall a good start but I know I can do better than that on future exams, so I'm using the result to motivate myself. We have also already started get our hands dirty by practicing on a dummy putting in a catheter (Google it if you don't know). After practicing, my instructor said it looked like I had already done this before (I didn't at all!) First week of classes! This week I we went straight into learning how to take vital signs e.g. pulse and blood pressure. I also started my classes for Pathophysiology (abnormal body functions) and Pharmacology (drugs). After weaving through where to eat, sifting through financial aid, and buying all necessary textbooks, it can seem like a lot so my goal is to just take it one day at a time. #nursegino (at University of Miami)

Most of my family and close friends already know, but I am beginning nursing school on Monday! I was accepted into the University of Miami for their one-year Accelerated BSN program, and have even gotten a partial scholarship through the Helene Fuld ABSN Scholars program. I have been a software developer for roughly the past 2 years, and while it has been fun, I feel that nursing can be a better fit for my aspirations. My end goal is to become a nurse practitioner or even go into nursing informatics. I’m intending to write a post on a biweekly to monthly basis, and I’m both nervous and excited to to see where this new journey can take me. #nursegino (at Orlando, Florida)

ORIENTATION! Yesterday I learned a lot about the school and met a lot of nice classmates. I was glad to know many of them were from NJ! Things I found poignant about the presentation included how the accelerated program offered many student organizations and even study abroad trips, both of which I’m definitely interested in especially since I didn’t study abroad in regular undergrad at Rutgers. Yesterday also featured a Counseling presentation aimed mainly to get students to learn about stress management techniques. This is useful since a student speaker spoke about how she questioned her being in the program after getting a 59 on her first exam. (She ended up acing the rest of her tests for that class!) I can understand the ups and downs of an accelerated program after going through an intensive programming bootcamp 2 years ago and hope that the experience will help me here.
